TAMEEK ROBINSON, is a singer. Some have described her as a cross between the late Aaliyah, Toni Braxton and Jill Scott. In fact, she works her R&B/Pop magic every Tuesday, at the Grape Street Pub in the northwestern Philly neighborhood of Manayunk, Pennsylvania. Robinson, in the lingo of the music biz, is a newbie.The Caribbean singer, one-half Jamaican and one-half Bahamian, comes from a big family of four brothers and six sisters. All of her sisters have a bit of that familial musical talent. However, Tameek is the one who is serious about technique and honing her vocal dexterity.The Curtain RisesIn middle school and at Williamstown high school in Williamstown, New Jersey, she performed in several musicals--The Wiz, Sweet Magnolias, and the King and I. Robinson competed in many talent shows doing Jill Scott ballads, singing melodies made famous by Vanessa Williams and Monica.Of her ambitions, she states emphatically, I dont think I have to take off my clothes to gain attention. I believe I can do justice to a song in whatever I wear, even in an evening gown.Friends describe Robinson as anchored. Tameek taps into her reservoir, her spiritual baseher family.
