Volleyball, volleyball, volleybal. It's the one thing that I'm really good at and the one thing I'm better at than most of the people I know...well....except for the guys I play volleyball with. Well...now that sounds really unimpressive. Whatever. I have a love of music from the 7 years I worked in the radio biz. I love film and TV. I like to be visually entertained. I bleed the Montreal Canadiens, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Azzurri, Liverpool F.C., the Hamilton Bulldogs, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, the Miami Dolphins, the Baltimore Orioles, and the Toronto Blue Jays. Oh...and I love the girls of BP. They're all sweethearts.
Conan O' Brien, Paul McCartney, Gene Simmons, Sarah Silverman, Wayne Gretzky, Burton Cummings, Bret "The Hitman" Hart, Kobe Bryant, Vince McMahon, Bill Walton and Lennon, Hendrix and Moon...if they weren't...you know....dead.
Well, considering I've worked in one fashion or another in the music industry since 1995, I should give you my opinion on music. Here it is. It's good. Happy? I'll tell you what I like. The Beatles, the Guess Who, Rush, pre-'Black Album' Metallica, the Who, the Stones and the King of Rock and Roll himself will always be at the top of my list. At the moment The Trews are my favourite band as their live shows just leave me in awe. There's so much good music out there. I will always be supportive of my little clique of Canadian bands from my days at HTZ FM to my current days at HMV. Three Days Grace, Thornley, Finger Eleven, Danko Jones, Wide Mouth Mason, Default, Sloan, Bif Naked and R.I.P. Headstones, Age of Electric, Tea Party, Big Wreck, Odds, Rainbow Butt Monkeys and Big Sugar. Judging by my CD's to my left I like Disturbed, Three Doors Down, Pearl Jam, RHCP, Audioslave, Velvet Revolver, Marilyn Manson, Tragically Hip, Blue Rodeo, Foo Fighters, the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Supertramp, the Doors, Nirvana, Soundgarden, the Police, Queen, old Aerosmith, Elton John, U2, Cake, Beck, Jack Johnson, Donovan Frankenreiter, Black Sabbath, Zeppelin...I could sit here and name bands forever.
Favourite film of all time is the Godfather. Yeah, that may be a typical guy answer, but it is the perfect movie. Here's the thing about movies...it's two hours of your life where you're in another world and you forget about all the crap, all the stress and all the idiots and the only thing that matters is what is on that screen. It's kind of magical really. Magical, until the jag off kids in the back row start making noise and dropping their beer bottles. Idiots. Anyway, take some time and go see a movie. It doesn't matter if it's bad as it will give you a story to tell. Go see any sports film. There's so much drama and heart in them. Whether it's Hoop Dreams, Rocky, Bull Durham, Tin Cup, The Rocket, Rudy, Cobb, For The Love Of The Game, Field Of Dreams, Eight Men Out, Year Of The Yao or Hoosiers..one of the best sports films ever. If you're not into sports then check out Do The Right Thing, Goodfellas, Malcolm X, Seven, Clerks, The Naked Gun, Animal House, The Blues Brothers, Airplane, Halloween, Saving Private Ryan, Reservoir Dogs, Versus, Spaceballs, and anything with Will Ferrel or superheroes.
Let me tell you something about TV. It's awesome. My mom sat me in front of the TV for as long as I wanted. I turned out well-adjusted, calm, happy and now have a ridiculously extensive knowledge of pop culture televison. All good things. TV for good is you. This is what I consider great TV: Any and all sports, 24, the Law and Order series, Newsradio, Family Guy, Simpsons, Futurama, Rescue Me, OZ, Chappelle's Show, WKRP, Night Court, Homicide, Greg the Bunny, PTI, Scrubs, The Shield, Jackass, Looney Tunes, the Muppet Show and anything with superheroes or created by Joss Whedon.
I like them. Ken Dryden's The Game, Motley Crue's The Dirt, and anything by Mick Foley or Dr. Seuss.
Kirk Muller, Bret "The Hitman" Hart, Gianluigi Buffon, Luke Skywalker, Paul Molitor, Saku Koivu, Greg Moore, Bill Simmons, Youppi, Todd Kerns, Batman, James Sanford, Tony Kornheiser, Michael Wilbon, Dane Cook, Mitch Hedberg, David Cross, Pierre Trudeau, Luke Walton, Alessandro Del Piero, Kurt Angle, Al Pacino, Steve Yzerman, Steven Gerrard, the Flash, Phil Jackson, Michael Jordan, Craig Yeast, Cristobal Huet and the entire '93 Habs, '93 Jays, '99 Ti-Cats, '00 Lakers, '06 Liverpool F.C, and the '06 Azzurri!
