About Me

I am a practicing lawyer, social justice activist and academic. Professionally, I have practiced at all levels of court in British Columbia in addition to state and federal courts in the United States. I am currently a solo practitioner working primarily in criminal and constitutional litigation, though my professional background includes complex commercial litigation in a large business law firm.
As a social justice activist, Iam active in the New Democratic Party, volunteer as a member of the Board of Directors of the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association and am the Chair of that Association’s Drug Policy Committee. I am also a member and the President of the BC chapter of eNDProhibition, a group of NDP members advocating for progressive drug policy reform. I have also written and spoken on issues related to privacy and religious freedom.
Academically, my background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in political philosophy, a Juris Doctor (LL.B. equivalent) in Law and a Master’s in Law. I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree at the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law. My major research interests include cultural theory, moral regulation and the relationship between the individual, state and society.
I live in Vancouver, BC with my wife Debbie and our three young children. More information about me can be found at www.tousawlaw.ca.
