"Oh listen Tender Lumplings let me take you by the hands. I'll take you from this hell-hole to the Promised Land. But don't blame me, oh children, if those promises don't keep. 'Cause promises like lives, can be bought so very cheap."
Boingo is the last studio album produced by Danny Elfman's band Oingo Boingo. It was released in May of 1994 on Giant Records, in both standard and limited editions. The limited edition features a booklet of lyrics, pictures, and artwork from the band, and has different CD artwork. For this album, the name was shortened to simply "Boingo", and the horn section, while still present, was heavily downplayed. The band abandoned the more upbeat stylings of their previous albums in favor of a much darker, brooding rock sound, and the lyrics dealt with emotional and political issues much more deeply than on any previous Oingo Boingo release. For this album, Danny Elfman was heavily influenced by The Beatles - to the point where it has been described as their "White Album" - and appropriately so, the album contains a cover of John Lennon's "I Am The Walrus". Like much of Oingo Boingo's catalouge, the album was not a mainstream success, but has garnered a huge cult following. The album is no longer in print, but used copies can usually be purchased at various online retailers for a reasonable price. The cassette and UK release of the CD contains a bonus track, "Helpless". This page is a tribute and an honor to Boingo's final album, and argueabley one of their best works.
