At this moment, you are dreaming, and your dreams have guided you here. They call themselves Beauty Sleep, four artistic outsiders from Austin, Texas, who have united to become visionaries of artistic expression through sound. Tommy’s guitar is the lightning striking on a pitch black night; Steve’s bass is the thunder booming through the perilous clouds; Kim’s keyboards are electric rain cascading from the heavens; Emily's voice is the neon rainbow, stretched across the sky in post-rain glory; and together they take the music world by storm. Fascinated by their unique style, I went on a quest, to discover the true meaning of their music, and this is what they told me:
“Our approach to sound is the point where the past and future collide, creating a melancholy brilliance of futuristic, retro-pop joy… But it’s an unpredictable joy that can fade into a heartbroken void at any moment. We use the Electro/New Wave style of the 80’s as a trampoline, bouncing abruptly through time and emotions, on an artistic pilgrimage to paint a triumphant new reality, one which transcends all things (including gender, grace, and ice cream)…"
This definition gives clarity to one obvious fact: They are determined to make a fresh and fearless artistic statement. Their imaginations parachute through the spectrum of hopes, questions, and battles of the heart, all of which are remarkably projected into their songs. Sleeping is a fundamental need that connects us all subconsciously, and they reflect this universal connection through music. That is the common dream they share.
