Hey every one!!! I married my high school sweetheart on January 20th 2006. We had just entered our wedded bliss when we found out on May 15th 2006 that I was in heart failure. The heart failure progressed quite rapidly and on July 30th 2006 I had to have a device called an LVAD or Left Ventrical Assist Device, put in to help do the work of currculating my blood because my heart could not handle it. I was also placed on the transplant list because the LVAD usually helps you stay alive long enough to receive a transplanted heart.I had the LVAD for 255 days and the doctors took it out. Not becuse I was receiving a transplant, but because my heart healed itself. This is not the usual out come but it was always a possibilty. In the study program I am in I am the 5th person to have the device removed and not receive a transplant. I am also the FIRST female in my study to have it removed. There is not known whether I will have to have another device or a transplant later on but I sure am glad that the device was availiable to help save my life. This is still an experimental item and it is not approved by the FDA. Hopefully one day it, or a similar device, will be.
