Peter Shipman

About Me

After graduating with a BA(Hons) in drama & languages, Peter studied acting and musical theatre in London before discovering his counter-tenor voice and switching to classical music and opera. Peter has performed several countertenor roles in opera productions with CityLit. Opera and Morley Opera and has performed in oratorios and given regular recitals with Margaret Gibb's Opera Company. In 2002, Peter won the prize as Most Promising Newcomer at The North London Festival (The British and International Federation of Festivals) and later went on to win First prizes for Operatic Aria and The Festival Singing Trophy. He regularly performs classical and crossover music at various London venues; Bartok, 12 Bar, Hoxton Hall, St Barnabus....with singer & composer Kirsten Morrison ( see My Friends). He recently sang at The Prince’s Trust Berkeley Square Ball and as a member of New Metropolitan Gargoyle Opera performed in an opera video for The Dorchester Hotel Collection (See the movie at http://www.thedorchestercollection.com/video.html ). As a member of Eclectic Opera, he performed in a new piece "Flood" by Kirsten Morrison at The Camberwell Arts Festival, before taking it to the "Grimeborn" season at Arcola Theatre. Peter is involved in the exciting & innovative new company "New Opera Hero" ( www.newoperahero.com) having performed in an experimental piece at Grimeborn in August 2007 and in Cairo, Egypt in December. Grimeborn 2008- performed Pergolesi's Stabat Mater with Soprano Anna Gregory. He is currently preparing an album of British art songs and a recital version of Gluck’s Orfeo.
