Proven was formed in Newport News, Virginia in the spring of 2006 by founding members Mike Disney (bass and lead vocals), Brian Humphrey (guitar) and Matthew Robinson (lead guitar and vocals). Life long friendships had lead to the desire for these 3 to start a band with one another. In April of the same year they asked former Deacon Brodie drummer Tommy Hoff (drums) to complete the lineup. Without egos or blind ambition Proven was formed out of the love of music and the majestic poetry of song. Both Mike and Matthew had played together in the band Mightier Than Thunder between the years of 1990 and 2000, with Mikes older brother and future Proven producer Stephen Disney. After his time In M.T.T was over, Mike being no stranger to the music scene went onto form the highly successful band Luthersfall. Luthersfall not only had a strong lineup, but they had a great live sound engineer in Brian Humphrey. Brian's skills as a sound engineer would soon be eclisped by his very imaginative guitar playing.
In early 2007 Proven began recording their first album Proven Music Volume One. The album showed a band in there musical prime banging out such anthemic songs as 'Meant To Be" ," Evil Sings " and "Liar". When the album was finished the band started playing out at venues with local favorites such as Bully and Star33.
All seemed to being going well for the guys, but in the spring of 2008 drummer Tommy Hoff left the band for personal reasons. With no drummer and a sense of all being lost the 3 remaining members of the band decided to go in a new musical direction. They added a new member, former Lawson guitar player Zack Gentry. Zack brought new life into the band and the new lineup of Proven started playing acoustic shows. In October of the same year Proven was joined by drummer Steve Hill originally from Dallas,Texas. Steve fit right into the band with his original musical voice.
What will the future hold for these five guys with musical instruments? Only time will tell, but this much is for certain Proven isn't content with just being like everyone else.
