Kia

Kia, started singing professionally at the age of 18. Before then it was Sunday school and Church. In 1991, she started at Lock Haven University and met her roommate an active Choir Band member who encouraged her to audition for the University Gospel Choir. After a successful audition Kia was given one of the lead parts in the annual Gospel fest. Through the University choir, Kia traveled all over Central PA blessing the mics at some of the most prestigious Gospelramas and College Concerts. For fun and extra money she would enter talent contests with her friends singing backup and accompanying her with their chosen musical instruments and would win first prize EVERYTIME! In later years she would meet her vocal coach and co-music philosopher Genie Q. Genie Q later founded Buttamilk worldwide with Kenny and Qool DJ Marv. Buttamilk Nights at the North Star Bar would eventually serve to perfect and develop her skills as a performer and singer and also as a POET. Through the Buttamilk family, Kia was booked at several well known hot spots in the Philadelphia area. Zoots/ Middle Eastern Restaurant, Chez Labelle, and the Pantene Concert Circuit just to name a few.Through her lyrics, Kia expresses herself as a woman who has felt the joys and pangs of love and friendship.
