Redcoat was born Jason Newell in Warner Robins, GA. He spent six years in Georgia before moving to Memphis, Tennessee where he would come face to face with the influences that would later shape him as an artist. The Blues is king in Memphis and soon young Jason found himself admiring and being inspired by the musicians on the legendary Beale Street. The sounds were all around him and the spirit and soul of the world famous Stax Records would plant the seed for Redcoat to grow.At age 11 he returned to Warner Robins where he would pursue his passion for music. By age 15, Redcoat was a member of a local group that was popular amongst his peers, appearing in local talent showcases during his days at Northside High School. Sharpening his skills on the underground, Redcoat developed his unique and energetic flow and displayed a knack for songwriting that would garner critical acclaim from hip-hop heads. Upon graduation, he enrolled at Savannah State University where he continued to develop his sound while opening for major acts such as Pastor Troy, T.I., and Nappy Roots. Redcoats single Sweet Naked Lady found its way onto various DJs mixtapes and received airplay on Savannah radio stations mix shows. After doing shows throughout Savannah and the middle Georgia area, Redcoat relocated to Atlanta where he is currently based. Picking up where he left off, the self promotion has continued in Atlanta.
