3 years strong...never givin up. We all came from different walks of life, but now we're on the same path. From the flesh, its H.U.S.When The Hustlas formed in January 2005, they were originally "The Virginia Hustlas". The group started with Ca$ino and some of his closest friends at the time in Lexington, VA. Drop Zone who at the time only wrote songs and made beats for his own enjoyment with no intentions to record was not in the group, only one of Ca$ino's home boys. He was on the break of quitting and giving up on music all together after his computer crashed destroying all of his self made beats and rhymes. Ca$ino out of the blue called Drop Zone with a troubled mind. Times were rough and change was needed, so Ca$ino asked Drop if he still wrote and that he wanted to give the rap game a real try. The first recording session took place on January 5, 2005 on the back porch of Ca$ino's crib in Lexington. They worked on the mixtape project, "Hustle Time" which was recorded on an old computer with a computer microphone that had a sock attached to it (for filtering). After a few days of heavy booth action, a few cases of beer, and a couple packs of black-n-milds the 15 track mixtape was complete with song favorites like VA Fucka, 05' Bonnie and Clyde, and Fa' Shiggity. The "Virginia" Hustlas never stopped though starting on the first album, "Welcome to VA". This is when another piece of the puzzle came into play. The heavy spitter Seasons the God was in the booth and in the group. Seasons the God originally from PA already had a friendship with Ca$ino before Drop Zone was even known by the two of them. Welcome to VA had the potential to be a smash album, and lyrically wise it was. Poor sound quality and lack of engineering skill played a big part in the albums low buzz rate. By this time, The Virginia Hustlas had been in contact with major label Star Trak. This was a big step for a group that threw themselves together a few months ago. Nothing ever came from the contact with Star Trak, but it was a stepping stone in their journey.Doing what The Virginia Hustlas knew best to do, they continued recording never really pushing "Hustle Time" or "Welcome to VA". Before anything else happened, the group name was changed to The Hustlas and the letters H.U.S. were heard for the first time on "Hustle Time 2". H.U.S. at the time was just a way of Ca$ino, Drop Zone, and Seasons the shorten their name instead of saying The Hustlas everytime. Those three letters now stand for something since it only seemed right. Now H.U.S. stands for Honor Us Sincerely, because as anyone, the group wanted to be respected. Over the next few months, it was an effortless process for The Hustlas to complete Hustle Time 3, Hustle Time 4, Hustle Time 5, and a mix called "We Are The Hustlas". After a while the moral of the group started sinking fast. The group was not creating the buzz they thought they would despite the impressive lyrical content and creativeness of their music. So once again, change was needed, and this is where the present time begins. In November of 2006, the idea for a "real" album was thought up. That was all the motivation needed so they quickly began to come up with titles for the album. The name at first was "First Hand Bids Itself". The reasoning behind that is pretty simple, especially if you play Spades. You have a partner in this game and when the cards are dealt, you have to work with what you get, basically making the best out of your hand. You have to know when to step it up, also when to chill and go along with the ride. The Hustlas knew that they had to work with what they had, nothing more and nothing less. This album was going to be what they made of it, so make the album they did. During the making of the album they grinded for money from anywhere they could get it to help take care of the cost. All tracks except two came from Drop Zones long time friend Shook of Maja Music Ent. The engineering was done by licensed professional Lil D at Smok Shak Recording. A photoshoot was done in February of '07 to go along with the First Hand Bids Itself concept. The first singles Cap City and Crazy Legs were recorded first. Cap City being an 804 anthem, and Crazy Legs being a dance sensation. For the majority of the rest of the year The Hustlas spent recording, having H.U.S. meetings, and trying to stay motivated and keep one another focused. When the album was in the process of completion it came to a stop as the group saw that the name and concept were not working out, so new names for the album had to be thought of. After hard thought, "Unsigned" was the new title made up for the album. Then finally, in early November of '07 the album was completed as far as recording goes, but since the title was changed, so had to be the cover. So on The Hustlas birthday (January 5 of '08), everything was done and ready for shipping. Now the group spends their time pushing the album in hopes to be heard.www.thehustlas.com
