Do I sing? Yes. Do I rap? Yes. Do I do both on the same track? Absolutely! I have been involved with music since I was very young, but I haven't always done the type of music God wanted me to. I used to love secular music and had dreams of pursuing it as a career. However, God's plans for me were much different than my own.
By my musical involvment in school I met friends who were in total devotion to Christ. Their passion rubbed off on me, and I discovered a greater spiritual life than I had ever known. Because of their influence I decided to take my first shot at full-time ministry with a singing group known as Sevyn. The group would go on to be known as Simple Faith.
During my tenure in Sevyn my zeal for the Lord greatly increased. But there were many other musical opportunities available to me that prevented me from giving 100% to the group. I wanted to be obidient to the Lord, but there were still parts of me that I had reserved to myself. In early 2004 the group and I parted ways. It was at this point that the Lord went deeper into His personal work on me.
Soon after my departure from Sevyn, I was exposed to the ministry of Elder G. Craig Lewis. His ministry played an intricate role in removing secular music from my life completely. Thus, allowing me to give my all to the Lord and letting Him use the gift He gave me as He desired. On July 4, 2004, I re-dedicated my life to Christ and was re-baptized at New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Cincinnati.
From there, the Lord opened many doors for me in Christian music. That same year I was featured on "The Message Radio Show Mix LP, Lesun's album "God Fearing Rap Music" and the T.H.I.S. Click Records mixtape "Serious Series Vol. 2". I was also afforded the opportunity to start my own independent record label, "Ain't Yo Average Music."
Before the start of 2005 I signed with T.H.I.S. Click Records, which is headed by National Recording Artist, k-Drama. 2005 would bring further blessings as I was able to utilize my education in broadcasting, becoming the host of a Cincinnati Radio Show known as "Morning Inspiration". I was also named the Ast. Gospel Director of WCIN 1480am. Many more musical features would follow. Including an appearance on k-Drama's album "14 2 Life: Illustrations Of Self" and "The Message Vol. 2: More Than A Radio Show, Mix LP."
2006 was great. I was featured on "Serious Series Vol. 3", k-Drama & MC Till's album, "Black Guy Meets White Man", B.I.G.S.T.E.V.E.'s album "Serve The Lord", DeeJay Roberts album, "Prodigy Of Promise", "The Message Volume 3", and I Executive Produced the first project from Ain't Yo Average Music, Deacon D.A.S. - "Deaconstruction: Destroy & Rebuild".
In 2007 I was featured the One Route Entertainment compilation entitled "Life Over Death". I was blessed to place my hand in internet radio, as I became host of the Holy-Hip-Hop Xperience on MyUrbanGospel.com
2008 saw more features and most noteably an apperance of k-Drama's album entitled, "BoomBaptism". Currently, I am featured on Deacon D.A.S.' debut LP, "Losin' My Religion, and I am gearing up for the release of my debut album, "...As Recorded By Matthew" releasing June 16th, 2009!
I am the proud husband of Nicole Bracey, and father of three boys, Kayleb, Donavan, and Brandon. We are currently expecting our fourth child. It's a boy!
