The Vince Lujan Project (pronounced - 'LU-HAHN') is a Denton, Texas based band that is putting a new spin on the ever evolving, all encompassing Texas sound by infusing blends of Acoustic, Pop, Funk, Latin, and Soul. It's "feel good" music that's catchy and memorable with great hooks and accessible lyrics.
The amalgamation that is VLP contains a wide variety of musical influences. Each individual player brings something unique to the group. Some have commented on hearing the influences of Santana, the Dave Matthews Band, the Mexican Rock Band - Maná, Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton, Jose Feliciano, and even references to Texas standard artists like SRV and highly acclaimed new comers Los Lonely Boys.
To really experience and understand the group, you've just gotta see a live show. There is a certain energy in the room when they play that totally envelopes you and causes you to get lost in the music. The Vince Lujan Project takes their music in a positive direction that you can feel down in your Texas or 'wherever you come from' soul.
A native of Spring, TX, Vince was playing guitar as early as the fourth grade - after a little league accident persuaded his mother that Vince's football career was over.
There has always been music in the Lujan house. While at a music studio where his mother studied piano, Vince first heard and stumbled upon someone playing guitar. Taking lessons then for two years, he learned key fundamentals of music and also studied the difficult style of classical guitar music.
After the studio closed, Vince immersed himself in classic Rock n' Roll, Tejano and Latin music on the home radio. He listened closely to the styles of Chuck Berry , Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens , and early Beatles. He maintained and improved his skills by joining local church choirs. There he began to develop his own style of singing, a unique style of improvisation that he learned from copying oldies records and church music.
These experiences led Vince to form his own music groups, such as: Dead End Street Music, Natural Wood Finish, and Top Brass. He joined the band programs in junior high and high school, learning to play the trombone. At this time, he also began to compose songs and further develop his singing talent, in addition to the harmonica. After participating in the Klein Oak Jazz program, Vince continued to explore jazz music at North Harris Community College , studying under the direction of Gary Liebst and Stephan Badreau.
By this time, Vince's interests in music styles had matured, and he discovered blues music, emulating the styles of Eric Clapton , Stevie Ray Vaughn , and Carlos Santana . However, out of all the latest musical forces influences Vince, the most formidable has been the eclectic acoustic fusion jazz rock of the Dave Matthews Band. Just one listen to the way Vince plays acoustic guitar, and it's evident that he has spent hours of study listening and refining his Dave guitar impersonations.
In summer of 2000, Vince enrolled at the University of North Texas . He moved to Denton a few short years later was married and currently pursuing music full time. !CLOSE Text Div!:
