Merii (Merry) was created in October 2001. The mixing of the ex-members of After Effect (Gara and Nero), Shiver (Yuu), Syndrome (Kenichi) and AciD (Tetsu) resulted in a very original and highly explosive substance. There should be no wonder thus why they gained popularity at such a short time. They played their first one man live on Janury 28th, 2004 at Shibuya AX (before that, they'd played with eg. Baroque)The music of Merry is often described as 'heavy rock', and sometimes they're even compared to bands such as MUCC. Two of the members contribute to the general sound of the band most: as a composer, Yuu adds more melody, while Gara's voice at times sounds uncanny. Together, these two create rather dark, though very melodic and catchy tunes. The band has a very characteristical and easily recognizable style, which it hardly ever diverges from.Merry's image, similarly to their music, is gloomy, mysterious and eerie. The boys can most often be seen wearing black suits, or other dark and 'stiff' clothes. They paint their eyes in a peculiar nightmarish way, and Tetsu's hair only adds to the general mysterious effect.Sometimes, the boys reveal their true nature and transform into Super Merries: a band whose members are dangerous, mean and ugly. They go by different names then, Gara changing into Mamurasaki, Yuu becoming Zack (or Zaku), Kenichi: Sepico, Tetsu: Shadow and Nero: Fukurokouji Maname. Under these masks they boys turn into different people, with their personalities and image so much unlike the 'everyday' Merry.
