And here are my blogs:
Pitting outside the box -- click here Personal: my youngest child, Hope, is deaf due to near-fatal bout with bacterial meningitis at the age of 13 months. She "hears" thanks to a cochlear implant which she got in 1999 at Charlotte Eye Ear Nose and Throat Associates in Charlotte, N.C. I had moved there to pursue a career in NASCAR, but due to her special schooling needs, I had to commit either to my daughter or to work. And as much as I love NASCAR, that was a no-brainer. But I believe it happened for a reason. Why? My daughter's name is Hope; her audiologist was Judi Bible; and her speech therapist was Margaret Miracle. Get it? Hope + Bible = Miracle!
I will always hold in my heart my beautiful baby boy, Edward David Siska, who died of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) at the age of 11 weeks in September of 1991. The cause of SIDS remains unknown, but the grief it brings to survivors is sadly known by millions.
My oldest son has Asperger Syndrome, a high-functioning form of autism. He was diagnosed about a week before my daughter's bout with meningitis.
I lost my brother, Dave Slothour, to cancer in May of 2003. He was waaay too young to die and I miss him terribly.
My dad is in a nursing home thanks to the brain-wasting devastation of Alzheimer's disease, probably due to two serious head injuries he suffered. My dad was a racer and had his NASCAR "membership" but unfortunately, he never told me much about it...and now he can't. It's very sad.
