"Life Like This," obvious single material, is reminiscent of Jason Mraz, and "All Over You" opens up like a Matt Wertz tune, but in both cases Martin's uniquely powerful voice makes the songs undoubtedly his own. The softer side of the album, although less commercial, showcases what makes this songwriter standout. Even alongside a gorgeous worship ballad, the previously recorded "Here I Am" is one of the defining moments on the record. Written from his mom's perspective on her abusive childhood, Martin sings with gut-wrentching honesty: "Here I am/Take me now/Here I am/ I'm frail and broken down." The title track, meanwhile, is also a standout ballad. Perhaps featuring Martin's best vocals, "Colorless" peaks with his breathtaking falsetto. With great underlying movement and a melody that sounds like no one else, it is here that Martin proves his huge songwriting talent.
