Natural Fiction...
Well I guess I will start from The Beginning.
Sidney Soulé-Jones met Josh Clay on the Halloween after he returned home from jail. Sidney noticed Josh playing a guitar and Sidney had been playing drums for a while now. They both agreed on times when Josh could go to Sidneys house and they would just jam in the garage. Soon after they realized they should make this a band. We had a friend who was just starting to play guitar named Omaye Berhe, and we ended up letting him play rhythm. Then the next question, who will be bassist?
THE QUEST FOR THE BASSIST
Sidney had a friend named Julian who was a pretty good bassist so he said he could play with this band. Julian kindly accepted after the flop of his other band. The problem was distance. Julian actually never came over with his bass so we pretty much just had to go find another one. This came months later when we found John Glover. He was probably our only person we could call bassist for this band even though we only played with him 2 or 3 times. Honestly though, thats all we could get, all good bassists (or bassists at all) were taken or just didnt want to do it, so we stuck with John. Then the next question came up, what is the name?
THE NAME SEARCH
Yes we have all members now we must make a name. Sidney made the myspace and just because we had no clear name he put something random he had thought of, this name was "Coming Storm." This name lasted about a week or less. Their friend Brandon started helping with band names and did come up with some good ones. We adopted names from him such as "Infatuation," "Beyond Repair," and "Eclipse," but none of these seemed to fit. Josh one day told me of a name he had used for many things he has done, "Natural Fiction." This is the part some people may want to know so I will say it. The name Natural Fiction came from 2 Quinton Tarantino films, "Natural Born Killers," and "Pulp Fiction." This just kind of stuck and we kept it.
THE FIRST SONG
"HOLY DIVA!" Yes you have all heard it I'm pretty sure, but do you know how it came about? Well you see Josh and Sidney were sitting at Joshes house one night and Sidney brought up how Holy Diver was in the next Guitar Hero game. We gave it a listen and then we started looking at tabs for it. Soon after, Sidney got on Josh's computer program for making drums. Sidney sat in front of it for about 5 hours making the drums to Holy Diver. When Sidney got done they recorded it to Audacity along with Josh's guitar part for it. It got pretty late so they then went to sleep. Josh woke up Sidney at about 10A.M. telling him to sing it now. Sidney wanted time to at least make his voice not crack every 5 seconds since he had just woke up, but Josh wanted it done RIGHT THEN. Sidney sang the song and it had all gotten finished and recorded on July 21st, 2007. It was the start of the Natural Fiction reign.
THE CONTEST
Well if you ever look at our videos on this page you have seen us lip syncing a song by a New York band called Bipolar (now disbanded unfortuantely). That video was a contest by the band and the winner won a guitar. Sidney and Josh then got to work when they found news of this contest. We spent about 4 hours on that video. We finally posted it and blew away the contest. One person beat us but we still think thats just because he got in a car... Anyway, since we did a good job they still sent a guitar to us. Sidney told them he was a drummer so they were nice enough to send a drumstick to the band also. After this they found out their video talents and utilized it when they made the video to Holy Diver, which was filmed in Josh's backyard at about 3 or 4A.M.
THE END... OR IS IT?!
"I'm going to the Army." These were the words of Josh in mid-January of 2008. Of course Sidney and Omaye knew it would be best for him but they knew that it meant the main founding member of NaFic was leaving for 4 years. If that wasnt enough, Sidney found out he was moving to Lexington, SC in late February. This meant all members of NaFic would be completely spread out. One thing you must all know though, is that this band will never die. We will be back one day. Remember that.
