My name is Willie J. Shorter, Jr. aka "The Bottom Slapper!" I originate from Ellenville, New York which is in the Catskill Mountains in lower upstate New York. It's a beautiful area that I ask everyone to visit just once. Someday I'm going back. Hopefully sooner than later....;-)!
Currently, I play bass here in the Oklahoma City area. I'm the primary bassist at City Church Downtown @ NW10th & Robinson in downtown Oklahoma City, Ok. We play a lot of original music but some covers by such artists as Israel Houghton, Judith Christie-McAllister, Bishop Eddie Long, etc. I also play in bands outside of the church.The first band is called WAFFLE. WAFFLE pretty much plays just original music. We continue to chase the proverbial "record deal". You can check out WAFFLE at either Waffle! or Waffle on MySpace!
I used to play in a second band but we've recently parted ways. Trust me, it was for the best. I'm happier and I hope they are as well. After all, it's what they wanted...;-)!
I'm a free agent bass player now and I like it. This freelance thing is pretty cool. To be honest with you, I'm not sure if I'll do another band. Having some weekends to myself, as opposed to playing every weekend, is VERY refreshing!
Here's a video of me playing with my old band the Groove Merchants. We're performing the Earth, Wind & Fire song "Shining Star". The audio is that great, especially on the bass, but it'll give you and idea of my playing.
