About Me

Raised in the woods of Western Pennsylvania by humble parents (Theresa’s mother is a liturgical musician, her father an electrical engineer), Theresa picked up her first instrument, piano, at the tender age of five, the violin by eight, and was singing in the Children’s Festival Chorus of Pittsburgh (admittance by audition only) by ten. By twelve, Theresa was being requested by the parishioners at her church to sing for special masses, wedding ceremonies, and funerals as well as being recognized by the local newspaper for winning gold cups in Western Pennsylvania’s Division of piano guild competitions. She quickly became known around town as the girl with the angelic voice who had the piano chops to back it up. Theresa began writing songs on the piano when she was seven years old and while in high school, the song, Everlast, she wrote for her graduating class was performed in front of her peers on her prom night. Theresa’s songwriting blossomed in her third year at Miami University of Ohio, where she earned a minor in Music Composition in the spring of 2004. Becoming the principal pianist for the Miami University Jazz Big Band was the point at which Theresa realized she would structure her life around a career in music. She began applying for music schools in her senior year at Miami University and in the August of 2004, she was admitted into the Vocal Performance department on scholarship at Duquesne University’s Mary Pappert School of Music. After studying one year with the reknowned Claudia Pinza, daughter of opera legend, Ezio Pinza, Theresa realized her true passion resided in more contemporary styles of singing and songwriting, like jazz and pop. At this point, she sent an application to Berklee College of Music in Boston. After receiving the Berklee Entering Student Scholarship in the summer of 2005, Theresa moved to Boston to hone her songwriting, singing, and piano chops. While in Boston, Theresa immersed herself not only in loads of schoolwork and practicing, but the New England music scene. She sang and accompanied herself twice a week for two years at Serafina’s Italian Restaurant in Concord, MA, performed all around the New England area with Siman Entertainment’s “Superband” as a vocalist and primary keyboard player, and formed her own band, The Theresa Flaminio Band, who performed at various clubs and bars in the greater Boston area. Theresa has won merits like VH1’a Save the Music award for Best song in the contemporary/world category in 2004, the Solo and Ensemble Award from Berklee’s Voice Department in March 2008, and in July 2008, she was selected as a finalist for Mark Burnett’s reality show “Jingles”. Theresa’s most recent prized possession is her album, which is scheduled to be finished and available to the public by January 2009. This album will encompass her musical maturity to this point in ten charming songs, which she has taken part in every step of the album making process from songwriting to arranging and production to audio engineering to design of the album. Theresa’s voice has retained the angelic quality from her youth, yet her years of study have introduced soulful and powerful sounds. It is almost impossible for any individual not to stop and listen intently when she sits down and accompanies herself on the piano. She is often referred to as a Joss Stone-Norah Jones. Theresa has begun making her mark in music and lives by the motto “give music, give life”.I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
