Yoga:
Julia's journey into yoga began as a child. She spent her summers at her family's folk dance hotel in the Catskills where she learned Sivananda yoga from her mother and her aunt, who taught daily classes. In March 1997 Julia received her certification in Hatha yoga from the Sivananda Vedanta Yoga Center in Nassau, Bahamas where she resided for several months. Soon thereafter, Julia took the reins of the old family hotel and slowly began to transition it into a holistic retreat center where she taught daily yoga classes to people of all ages including children and seniors. Julia's yoga practice is constantly changing and evolving. As a dancer , she has been greatly influenced by the flowing vinyasa style , as well as the strong alignment principles of Iyengar and Anusara. Julia has recently completed a certification in anatomy and breath centered yoga at the Breathing Project in NYC . .She is also certified to teach pre-natal yoga and Baby Om (mommy and me ) . She is currently teaching, hatha, vinyasa, pre-natal,, baby om and kids yoga at various locations throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan.Julia has also been dancing professionally since 1990. She has studied Egyptian, Turkish, and North African styles and has taught classes and workshops in New Orleans, New York City and the Netherlands. She has an extensive resume of performing experience in solo and group shows in prestigious venues all over New York City which include The Angel Orensatz Center, The Prospect Park Band shell, The Lafayette Grill, Theatre East, The Triad theatre , Fez Under Time Café, Tagine, Cedars of Lebanon, Nells night club, The Pyramid Club , Sahara East, and Le Souk and Coney Islands "Sideshows by the sea shore. As a dancer, she has been featured in The History channel docudrama of " Saddams sons " and fuse tv music marathon. She also performs for many private parties and community events.
In 1990, Julia won an award as the best special event at the Coney Island Mermaid parade( A point of great pride!).
Julia has traveled throughout Europe and performed in a variety of venues for audiences in Holland, Belgium and Germany most recently as a solo dancer for the Yiddish/Gypsy jazz Band, Nikitov .She has garnered praise for her creative choreography, fluid movement, beautiful costumes and magnetic stage presence. She excels in intricate veil-work, rhythmic finger cymbals and suspenseful sword dancing.
