Thanks for dropping by and Welcome to the world of David A. Dunbar... the neo-jazz/fusion/r&b/gospel drummer for the '07 and beyond. I began playing the drums @ the early age of 6, although the saxaphone was truly my 1st love (What can I say, I wanted to be just like my dad). My father, who is an accomplished singer/songwriter/musician and master of 6 different instruments, was my 1st instructor. After struggling between the thought of playing my 1st love or hanging out with my dad on a professional level by accompanying his traveling singing group (Sound of Salvation), destiny stepped in and made the decision for me and I've been "Beatin tha Skins" ever since. My playing style has been influenced by some of the greatest drummers/musicians such as Tony Royster Jr., Dennis Chambers, Aaron Spears, Sonny Emory, Michael White,Omar Hakim, Roy Haynes, Dana Davis, Calvin Rodgers, Steve Gadd, Harvey Mason, Gerald Heyward, and Dave Weckl.Through the years, as my skill level continued to progress and doors opened up, God has blessed me to accompany and learn my craft behind some of the greatest gospel artists/musicians/composers such as LaShun Pace, Edwin and Walter Hawkins, Rev. Timothy Wright, Andrae Crouch, Calvin Rhone, Kirvy Brown (of Hezekiah Walker & LFC), Dr. Stan Lee, Danny Freeman, Donald Hunt, David Blakely, Selestene "Tene" Sterling, and many others. As 2007 opens with a bang, I know that my purpose is being worked out and my destiny fulfilled according to the will of God, in Whom my complete trust lies. He's been so faithful to me and continues to open doors that no man could fathom or see. A wise woman, pastor, and good friend once told me, "Whenever you get the opportunity to praise God, you do so to the best of your ability. Don't ever let circumstance or fear or emotion or people get in your way. Your enemy is anyone or anything that tries to stop you from progressing and moving forward. You beat those drums like your beating on the head of the enemy. And in all you play, whatever genre of music you play, whatever venue you play at, do it all unto the glory of God... For only what you do for Christ will last."Currently, you can catch me accompanying the Edwin Hawkins Music & Arts Seminar Choir, The L.A. Gospel Messengers, Tim Lathon, The S.T.O.P. Band, and the ETB Band.As I look toward the future and all that God has in-store, I sit in eager anticipation of the things to come and am ready to embrace all of the possibilities... after all, the sky's the limit. Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to drop a comment or two as you leave. For interests in booking or contact information, please forward an email to me.One Love...
