Born Rodney Myers and raised in uptown Philadelphia, Rocky Fontaine is no stranger to facing and overcoming adversity. Rocky’s father was a well known drug dealer from north Philly and his mother was a Philadelphia police officer. Rocky grew up around his father and his uncles and saw things at the age of 5 that most people never see in there lives. That made him a strong individual and also helped him handle the trials and tribulations that the world was getting ready to send his way. At the age of six years old Rockys mother was killed. The tragic murder of his mother devastated Rocky, and his father’s constant imprisonment left Rocky orphaned on the rough streets of Philadelphia. The enormous responsibility of raising a young child weighed on the shoulders of his four sisters. Without parents, Rocky quickly learned the life of hustling in the tough streets of Philly. His life experiences are the major influence in his music, where he revels some of his past stories of hustling and survival. Rocky’s oldest sister attended a performing arts school and introduced hip-hop to him at a young age. He purchased the album Black Moon and soon began to write. The flashy, no nonsense lifestyle of Kool G Rap and Big Daddy Kane were also inspirations for Rocky to rap, As well as Notorious BIG, 2 Pac and Jay-z. But more than anything Rocky was inspired by the local Philadelphia Rappers.
When Rocky was going into highschool artists such as Gilly Da Kid, Beanie Siegel, and Spade from the group Major Figgas had Philadelphia on smash. The Philly music scene was at its best at that time and it made Rocky Polish his skills and begin to work hard at achieving his goal which was being at the top of the Philadelphia Rap Music scene. His friends Vito Lace and Feddi Scarcesi rapped as well and the trio formed a group that is now known as The Expansion Team. The group recorded a series of mix tapes while continuing each of their solo projects. Rocky performed throughout Philadelphia and New York and received airplay on various satellite radio shows and Canadian radio shows. In late 2006, Rocky moved to Atlanta where he could bring his Philly style to the south and truly make an impact in today’s hip-hop. Upon arriving in Atlanta, Rocky released his solo mix tape entitled The Paper Chase. The mix tape is currently circulating in major east coast cities and has sold several thousand copies respectively. His recent single, Trappin, was featured on Atlanta’s own HOT 107.9. Besides Rocky’s solo ventures, he has also worked closely with many other artists. Grammy award winner Slim (lead singer of R&B quartet 112) lent his famous voice on Rocky’s upcoming single Ride Tonight. He has also collaborated with Wiz Khalifa (Warner Brothers Records) , Kev Da Hustler, Kentrel (Who had the hit single “Weight Manâ€), G.O.V.'s S Money, Skee and SS of Atlanta’s own New Law, and Miami native and Slip an Slide Records heavy hitter Duece Poppi. Rocky is still moving towards achieving his goal of being at the top of the Philadelphia Rap scene. But he now has his mind set on bigger things, such as being at the top of the entire music industry. Rocky has performed with many mainstream rap artists and have shut the shows down. He recently has performed along side Rich Boy (Throw Some D’s) and is about to go on a nation wide tour with artists to be announced. Rocky Fontaine, “Philadelphia's Comeback Kidâ€, has now completed his first solo album and is prepared to change the monotony of today's hip-hop with his versatile flow, laid back disposition and his million dollar image. He is Philadelphia’s Comeback Kid for one reason and one reason alone. Because he will not stop working hard until Philadelphia’s music scene is once again thriving with talent and appreciated by the entire world like it was when before.
