My name is Conor and I am musically known as 'Ampkid', I've always had an interest in Grime/Garage and Rap/Hip-Hop from an early age but I never imagined myself to have an ambition to rap/mc. Listening to the Pure Garage CDs gave me a rhythm for garage music, but at primary school, thoughts of making movements in the music industry never seemed to appear in my thoughts. When I ascended to high school, I met people that were interested and in some ways involved with grime music, this urged me to take a trial with grime secretly and think up lyrics with very little inspiration
I always used to admire 'Eminem' because he wasn't a materialistic artist, he spoke whith passion and promoted his thoughts regardless of how commercial they were. Other garage artists influenced me such as DJ Luck, Dj EZ and also So Solid Crew, but i was still a listener of music and felt that writing with this inspiration was a struggle and unenjoyable. I didn't have a great calibar of producers to work with, so 'Eskimo' was the beat i wrote my first lyrics to. Friends at school seemed to like what I was doing and this encouraged me to write more frequently until I was thinking of basic, obvious lyrics, this went on for a short while until I began writing thoughtfull as well as seriously.
It wasn't until late 2005/early 2006 that I started to write lyrics seriously with a half-decent flow and well-rhymed lyrics. Although the music wasn't reaching full potential, it was getting good feedback from friends and urged me to work harder than ever before. I was trying to write lyrics every night even if it was just a small verse, I would say I had a good attitude towards music and I was willing to put as much work and time as possible into it. I now had different influences such as Ruff squad with beats such as 'Anna' and 'Forwardish'. Other influences were 'Roll Deep', to see a Grime group work successfully with a worldwide album influenced me greatly. And so, my content and quality of lyrics began to escalate.
One of my biggest problems was finding and paying for studio sessions, I wouldn't let this affect my willpower so I tried to write lyrics that were improving by the 32 bar, again my influences changed and I began to buy mixtapes and any vocals to study the patterns of flows and content of lyrics, not to copy but to admire. I preferred not to home record because I didn't find it very proffesional but with some tracks home recording was the only option and nevertheless it was still putting the music out to the small amount of listeners I had.
It is now 2007 and I am now the tender age of 14 years old. I am aiming to get my mixtape underway in January and I am constantly writing and improving. I will always try to support other people that are trying to acheive the same things as me, and promote when needed. If you want to collaborate or would like me to vocal an instrumental of yours, feel free to ask, just message me.
Thanks for reading.
