Mikka's Scar grew up in the 80's, surrounded by his dad's Hard Rock-vinyls. The New Beat-trend caught his attention and this turned out to be the starting point for his interest in electronic (dance) music. Soon however he turned back to rock music and started collecting metal cd's. In his search for raw and extreme emotions, he developed a preference for Black Metal, the most dark and controversial mu-sick created by man. His interest in electronic music however never ceased to exist completely. He undertook his first steps towards dj-ing by creating mixtapes, used during warming-up of the volleyball teams he played. These tapes were very eclectic and included heavy metal, punk rock, techno and house, anything to heat up the atmosphere before a game. He put more and more time in selecting the appropriate songs and their order to reach some kind of climax-effect. Under the monicker of "Steamy", he now made his first appearances as a dj on small, local parties. At one of these parties, he played on professional cd-players, and was intruiged by them because he was totally unable to mix with them. Soon, he bought his own second-hand gear and searched the internet on how to use it! After some hours of practicing, he mastered the basics, making his first steps as a cd-only dj. In 2004, he took a shot at the dj-battle contest at Stereo, the official Studio Brussel-bar in Ghent. By winning this contest, he earned himself a residency at Stereo and various other parties and gigs. Co-dj's and ex-Stereo residents Frères Deluxe pushed him to start with vinyl-mixing. They provided him with the worst turntables ever with the words: "If you can mix with this, you'll mix with anything." Mikka's Scar started buying vinyls massively and developed his mixing skills slowly but gradually. After some time he decided to move onwards and bought a set of Technics turntables. From now on, he fully exploited his advantage of being able to mix both on traditional cd-players and turntables, even simultaneously. His tastes in electronic music started to change and the "Mikka's Scar"-alter ego saw the darkness of night by the end of 2006. Until now, Mikka's Scar has shared the decks with the likes of Fred Nasen, Maxim Lany, Ed & Kim, Spacid, Frères Deluxe, Timbalism...
