About Me

Myspace Layouts by Pimp-My-Profile.com

An idealist, a realist, and a cynic.

My Interests

People, music, politics, rhetoric, general knowledge, psychology, history, guitars, Jones, Page, Bonham, Plant, and the unanswerable questions.

I'd like to meet:

My great-grandparents, Nick McCabe, Noel Gallagher, Winston Churchill, and Nick Drake.

Music:

The Verve, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Oasis, DJ Shadow, Kruder & Dorfmeister, The Meters, Jeff Beck, Jimi, Pink Floyd, Steve Miller, Aerosmith (early stuff), The Rolling Stones (the first 15 years), Ride, Supergrass, Thrush Hermit, Sloan, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Beastie Boys, DJ Food, A Northern Chorus, Stars, The Kinks, Simon & Garfunkle, Nick Drake, Portishead, Massive Attack, Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, STP, Foo Fighters, Miles Davis, Burt Bacharach, John Coltrane, Dave Brubeck, Norah Jones, Johnny Cash, The Doors, The Clientele, The Beach Boys, Air, Brian Eno, The Band, The Who, The Jam, The Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, Nick McCabe, The Nova Saints, BRMC, Beck, Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, Booker T & the M.G.s, The Blues Brothers, Lyrics Born, Cut Chemist, Sianspheric, Toshack Highway, Swervedriver, The Strokes, Elton John (early stuff), The Secret Machines, Olivia Tremor Control, Beulah, Apples in Stereo, The Flaming Lips, Xiu Xiu, Tram, Elbow, Doves, Bob and Doug McKenzie...

Movies:

Most of Terry Gilliam's stuff, anything MPFC or Mel Brooks, and all those cult movies and not so cult movies that make you see life a little different afterwards. Just look at allmovies.com's top 250 list for a better explanation.

Television:

Family Guy, Simpsons (before the 10th season), Sopranos, the news (not CNN), and that's about it. The internet and DVDs are so much easier than tv.

Books:

Again, anything that makes you see life a little differently or just keeps your attention for more than 10 minutes. George R. R. Martin's fantasy series 'A Song of Fire and Ice' is fantastic. All the James Bond books Ian Fleming wrote. Most recently 'The Crying of Lot 49' by Thomas Pynchon.

Heroes:

Mike, Lorna, Brian, Dan, Scott, Abbi, J, Ryan, John Paul Jones, Paul McCartney, Nick McCabe, Terry Gilliam, and The Black Adder.

My Blog

Language, Language Everywhere and Not a Word to Say.

Not much is happening on my end, but there's so much of it. I think the biggest news for me recently has been the reunion of The Verve. They're coming to Japan in the summer to headline one of th...

Im a Language Teacher, or, My Face Hurts From Smiling Too Much

I need a jungle gym to run around in I'm so excited. One more class to teach and then it's time to pack for the trip back home. I've had to limit my spending on gifts and I feel a little bad for it. I...

Travelling Has Never Been This... Exhausting.

I either need to get my own computer or surrender any idea that this is a living journal of my life. In my looking forward looking back mind I want to have a log of what I've done with my time outside...

Last Night a Ninja Saved My Life

I am Sam Fischer. At least at night, with the lights out, and the tv casting shadows on growing piles of stuff I should be doing. I picked up a new game a couple of weeks ago and it's (almost) become ...

Dead Airspace

October's here and it's still September. There's a song by The Olivia Tremor Control called 'I Can Smell the Leaves' that sums up this time of year best. It reminds me of walking through downtown Toro...

A Fickle Taste for Seasons

I used to like Winter best of all the seasons. It meant cancelled school and fun in the piles of snow Mom and Dad made clearing the driveway. Then I took a liking to Autumn and Spring. Autumns&nb...
