Bobby Lane - Engine 55 - Much more than a victim of 9/11

About Me

This site is in honor of Rob Lane "Bobby Lane" who lost his life on 9/11. He was a firefighter with Engine 55. He was also a friend to everyone that ever met him. His smile went on for miles. To know him was to love him. Yes, he was a hero. He was also a son, brother, and soon to be Uncle. He was a much-loved boyfriend. He was a friend to everyone that came into contact with him. He was Ryan's best friend - they were like brothers. When I came into the picture, he became a "brother" to me as well. The three of us were often called the "Three Musketeers". It was fitting. The purpose of this site is to remember and celebrate Rob. He was the life of the party and it would not serve him justice to remember him as simply a victim of 9/11. He was funny, silly, loud and crazy. He always had something up his sleeve to make people laugh. Sometimes it worked... sometimes I personally would want to box his ears. He loved a party and was usually the life of the party!!! He loved working on his ever changing cars and motorcycles. (The remains of such projects often scattered throughout my yard!... but they were his works of art! Didn't you know that primer was an artform???) He loved to play pool. He loved going to the shore and during the winter the ski house. He could cook a dinner that would make your mouth water just thinking of it. He had "Fat Bastard" down to a tee. He loved his beer and on "Ryan and Lori's House Drinking Game Night" (that's 3-Man for those of you not understanding)... well, Rob and I were usually the last two standing (or somewhat sitting / somewhat falling down... however you wish to put it - we were the last two awake and got to make fun of the rest of the lightweights the next morning. One thing to say on that: Firewater. I won't elaborate. Relevant persons will understand. hehehe) Simply put - he was one AMAZING PERSON! Always, we loved him and still do.September 11th may have taken Rob from us, but we will always have our memories. Many of us have chosen to remember him with a smile instead of tears. I hope this site can help some of you do the same.BLOG: Contains articles about Rob gathered from all over the web. There are dozens and you will have to search various days to see them all. Probably easiest to subscribe to the Blog to have them listed neatly. If anyone knows better about how this works - please let me know.PHOTOS WANTED: If you have photos of Rob that you are willing to share, please contact me. I know there has to be some wacky ones out there from the shore or ski house! One of the many parties at my house would be great if anyone has them digitally. OK - who has the Slip-N-Slide for shots photos??? Anyone from Donovan's have anything on the pool league? Let me know!Come back and see our progress. Oh - and for goodness sakes - please feel free to share your thoughts and memories. Remember something he did to make you laugh? Share it. This doesn't have to be only a "We miss you Rob" kind of thing. Thanks! My nieces and nephews grew up thinking that both Rob and Ryan were their Uncles. When you saw one, you saw the other. September 11th changed so many lives. Including those that grew up around their own personal hero. Bobby at Graduation Ceremony - Fort Benning, GA 7/06 - Honor Grad - with KG - She never got to meet you Rob, but she will grow up knowing all about you! Thanks to our men and women in uniform, perhaps the world will be a safer place for her. Whatever your political leanings, please support our troops. They are our family and friends and they are trying to protect us from another September 11th.
