About Me

One big thing...
If, for some reason, you want me to be your MySpace friend, do me a favor and send me a PM telling me who you are and, perhaps, WHY. It's not like I'm looking for sycophants-- I just want to know, at least a little, about the person I'm adding. That's all.
No message, no "addy". I think that's fair.
Here's yer proof Ricky...
"Hate Me Today" - Blue October...
I rarely ever listen to the radio, so when new music comes out, I'm usually two or three months behind. The one exception is my clock radio that wakes me up to music in the morning. I usually jump out of bed and have it shut off in less than five seconds (I'm a light sleeper)-- but last week this song was on when it the alarm sounded and I was totally floored by it. Very moving.
..
HIM...
Definately my favorite band... and this new CD rocks. 'Specially track 14. The remake of "The Sacrament" rocks too.
My life... the abridged version:
¶¶¶ Well, what is there to say? I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, but started moving around early. I was a foreign exchange student in the Canary Islands (Spain). Back in the late 90's I moved to Key West, Florida, then to Phoenix, Arizona and wasted NO time destroying my life. I always swore to myself that I'd never move back to Ohio. It's funny how personal destitution can change one's mind. After moving back to Cleveland back in 2002 I realized that I loved this place. Cheesy as it sounds, I don't think I could live anywhere else.
¶¶¶ As far as the fun stuff goes: I kayak like a fiend in the summer. I work out about six days a week-- which is odd since I tried numerous times throughout my younger adult life to get into working out and always failed. I love poker (though I suck-- especially since I come from a family of poker players). I love OSU Football (yeah-- I caught the feaver this year), promise NOT to be a fair weather fan. Besides that I love to hang at Malloy's with my boy DiMatteo when he's in town (which, oddly enough, is like every other weekend), watching the Bucks games and DOMINATE at Beer Pong with my punk-ass friends, Steve and Spoonman; and of course laughing my ass off with my hero and idol-- Sarah Jayne! Hmmmm... there's also this guy Rick... ;)
¶¶¶ People I miss / don't get to see enough of: Brenda Van Foondle. Lori & Rob. AUDREY! Veronica & Sisters. DREW. Eddie-O. Kyle. Pascual. Ralph "Jay" Civella. Octavio. Tait. Mr. Bartell. Jarrod & Nikki. Aunts Lulu & Peggy. EVH. Bugenig. Jayboy. Wickey. Buckaloo. Difford & Nicastro. Peter. "JR". Bar Tenders Donny (yeah, yeah, "AKA God") & Jamie ("Rachel Ray"). DeeDoo!!!! And (most of all) my LITTLE BRO DANNY and his cool ass wife Betsy.
¶¶¶ Places I miss the most (yep, there are even some bad ones in there): Adeje, Alcala, Los Gigantes, Playa de Las Americas, Baranco Del Infierno, La Laguna, CARNIVAL!!! La Caleta, Coco Loco, Piano Bar, Los Cristianos- TENERIFE. Claremar Lakes, Newton's back woods, Uncle Scott's woods, Dempsy's Trails, Wild Wood Lake Park, Jaquay Lake, the tree fort Dale and I built, The "old" GRID, Club Visions, Legends (ouch-- very old), The Brillo Pad, The Big Egg, Trilogy, The Cage, The Flats (when they were GREAT)- CLEVELAND. WTC- NYC. The Epoch, Schooner Warf, Diva's, Bahia Honda, TGI Friday's, La Te Da's, Fantasy Fest, Duval Street- KEY WEST. Insomnia (ugh), Axis/Radius, Sanctuary, VooDoo Lounge, Sushi On Mill (great SUSHI), Pussy Cat Lounge, Anderson's Fifth Estate, Gordon Biersch, Del Taco, Jack In The Box, Dos Gringos, Martini Ranch, TUBIN' on the Salt River, Mill Avenue, Marco Polo's, Maloney's, FRY'S Electronics, my apartment in Ahwatukee Foothills, Amsterdam Nightclub, BS West, AZ Mills Mall (don't know why I loved that place), and Aunt Chiladas- PHOENIX.
¶¶¶ For most of my life, I've had some seriously misaligned priorities. I'd like to think that I'm a different man now. At present, the most important things in my life are my friends, my family and my awesome job, and of course, my dog Remmy. Somewhere in there I'm actually able to find time for Rick. Good things (like the title of one of my very favorite [trance] songs) come "out of the blue."
¶¶¶ I love to travel (yeah, yeah, "cliche"... I mean, who doesn't?). I started traveling young. In the summber of 1992, I went to the Canary Islands (Spain) where I spent two and a half months hanging at the beach. The next year I returned as a foreign exchange student-- which to date, is the single most awesome experience of my life. I've been to much of Western Europe. I've been to West Africa (does Morrocco count?). Central America (got stung by a scorpion). Soon, and I mean REAL SOON, I need to go to some place new, like India or Australia.
¶¶¶ People are always asking me either about my political beliefs or about the whole "gay" thing. First off: my political ideals cannot be categorized ad hominem by the terms "liberal" or "conservative". As I see it, such political gravitation is the height of ignorance. While in theory I tend to be closer to a classic liberal (or libertarian) than anything else, it is still impossible to sum-up my beleifs by those terms either. But enough of that-- this entire blurb could easily be dominated by a political diatribe. Pointless.
¶¶¶ As far as my sexuality goes, well, it is what it is. I'm also right handed and blue eyed. I don't march in parades, nor do I have anything against them. The notion of "gay pride" is alien to me because, while I am in no way embarrassed by my sexuality, I am certainly not "proud" of it. It is what it is. I'm a guy, who acts like a guy, who just so happens to NOT get turned on by female genitalia. It REALLY isn't that big of a deal, and I can't understand FOR THE LIFE OF ME what all the hubbub is about. Unless, of course, my sexuality has the ability to make you insecure about yours, and if it does.... well, then you've got bigger problems than where I stick my dick.
¶¶¶ --Dan
P.S. Ricky-- Song 14. ;)
