W hen the Underground Award for the "Most Promising Hip Hop/Rap Artist" was awarded to none other than "Young Degree." He quickly began to pursue music with a flawless approach. Degree has made himself known to a worldwide audience; "The baddest kid on the planet" known by many as the "jersey ghostwriter" is slowly taking the music industry by storm. He is preparing to release new singles In April of 2008 and has been working vigorously preparing a radio spin campaign attempting to gain major airplay on many commercial and local radio stations. With a promotional tour on schedule, slated Itunes music release and anticipated shipment of 10,000 Cd's, Young Degree has already been considered by many, as one of the hottest underground independent rapper's of the North East.
B orn Michael Hobbs, Young Degree was raised in the cities of East Orange and Newark, New Jersey.
While many rappers say they have been rapping since they were a kid, Degree did not become serious about music until the year 2000. At age 18, Degree started "making beats", and selling his tracks to local artists for their demos. Upon graduating high school, Young Degree attended one year of college before he dropped out to pursue music. During the summer of 2001, Young Degree was introduced to, Mercel "Xcel" Stephen, a music industry engineer from The Hit Factory (New York), and CEO/Founder of 900 Miles Entertainment Inc. Young Degree expressed his interest to take his career further and Xcel offered him a internship at Music Factory Mix Studios. While learning the function of assistant intern, Young Degree worked hard to pay his dues. He picked up skills needed to operate a SSL console room and in no time, Degree was assisting on recording projects, playing the piano and producing records.
A fter meeting many industry professionals, Degree found himself working with many grammy nominated writers and producers. Young Degree has worked with many artists some of which to name a few include: Pras, (The Fugees/Sony), "Joe" Thomas (Jive Records), Olivia, (G-Unit), George Benson, (Concord), and BJ (Regatta Records). Through the years, the "jersey ghostwriter" has served as an A&R Director, staff producer, and consultant for many independent record labels. From 2002-2004, Degree worked towards the fulfillment of a publishing agreement with Dreamworks Music Publishing LLC, which was a former division of Steven Spielberg's "DreamWorks."
W ith money, connections and resources, Young Degree has begun his campaign to stardom. With the buzz growing, Young Degree launched 900 Miles Internet Radio LLC, A Internet radio station that in the future, will cover all genres of music while streaming pre-recorded audio "On Demand" 24/7. As a co-owner, Young Degree is also responsible for the launch of "All Jersey Radio" a popular station dedicated to New Jersey's hottest recording artists. The movement of 900 Miles Internet Radio has begun to bring worldwide listeners into the 900 miles world, while promoting the label and "Young Degree" as an artist.
"T he Baddest Kid On The Planet" has emphasized a long term approach to his career, Young Degree has mastered the ability to write, produce and deliver "hot" records. With years of hard work, he has secured his position of respect as a young entrepreneur within the Entertainment Industry and his local community. Recently, Young Degree was appointed "President" of 900 Miles Entertainment Inc.
A t the age of 25, Degree's goals include securing a joint venture deal for the 900 Miles Record Label, and also developing 900 Miles Internet Radio into a well known Internet radio service provider. He also shares the vision with X-Cel to begin building the "Artech Center" a 100,000' sq ft, Multi-Media Entertainment Facility which will be home to the Atlanta area. While having such big dreams, Degree has been cited by many as a electrifying up and coming producer and writer. Currently, Young is in the studio writing for a host of artists, and also tirelessly working on the completion and release of his first album "Good Friday."
