I am Sonasha. My name means "carrier of light". It is with my music that I hope to spread that light. I am one person. I have been given the gift of word dispersal. My ideas formulate themselves rythmically and creatively internally and make their way from within to without. I am a child of my Creator. She has blessed me beyond measure, and each day I try my best to emulate her. I consider myself to be a revolutionary, by which I mean I believe in freedom. Freedom to choose how we would like to live. Freedom to access information. Freedom to know the truth. Freedom to exist in and revolve within the places we choose. Freedom to live. period. Not to be confined by lack of education, lack of finances, lack of social acceptance. I believe in truth like Ugandan children running miles through the night each evening to find cover in a single guard's protection as rebels raid their villages.... like soft tones from would be mentally scarred children who say with grown folks voices..."touch me and i swear to God, i'll tell"....like oceans saying alms for those deposited there in trans-atlantic transit...like Cassie Bernal's last words before gunned down for belief in God... like the flipping of bible pages....like rest for the weary...like rem eyelids...like cool drinks of water...like Garifuna, Gullah gullah, creole, swahili... like syncretism....like santeria and capoeira... notes from berembau or djembe drum... like adhered advice from ancestors... like refusal to assimilate...or to stand idly by...I believe in compassion...that through in our daily lives, we as vessels must fight for the freedom that we have been made to believe that we do indeed possess, we must fight for this freedom using peace and compassion. Understanding that, before we are black or white, male or female, Muslim or Christian, we are human, and that connection is stronger than anything that we have been made to believe "divides us". I believe in the human race, that what we have done and has been done to us... can never be undone, but we need to have access to the truth. without truth, we keep making the same deadly mistakes. if we change our consciousness this is possible... we have to change how we view each other and how we view the world. This is my music. It is bigger than me. It is We. And I hope that if you do nothing less than bob your head... you gain something or are inspired to give in the process.
