Finally an update! I am here indefinitely at the Little Cabin on the Prairie, formerly the Little House on the Prairie. The well known quote about living each day to the fullest has taken on a new meaning to me. My once so easy life took a turn for the worst in 2008 when my dad was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and passed away in September. My husband Mitch and I inherited the 120 acre farm I had grown up on along with 300 turkeys! My dads free-range holiday turkey business has turned into quite the adventure, one we are looking forward to expanding in 2009. Don’t worry, our local roping friends give us a pretty hard time about farming turkeys, not your typical operation, but we are doing something different and how else can one be successful?
Next major event was the loss of my best friend of 13 years and talented horse, Fancy. For those of you who know me, she was far more than JUST A HORSE! Negatives aside, I am fortunate to have such a strong and loving husband to carry me through the hard times. Having loved and lost, I reflect on the memories of my father and my horse; it helps me feel at peace because I had them in my life. So many go through life without knowing a fathers love or the sense of accomplishment and pride a truly amazing animal can bring. For that I am lucky, however now about turning lemons into lemonade? If any one has the recipe, please PASS IT ON!!
