About Me

So..if you want the official bio check out www.bettyashtonandrews.com.The short version is this...While Betty Ashton is a classically trained harpist she has become more well known for playing the harp in ways, and in places, you'd never expect. For the past 10 years she has been playing her harp in hospitals both in Virginia and Tennessee and is now the Musician in Residence at the Vanderbilt Medical Center. Most recently Betty Ashton has been found playing her electric harp (and accordion) with various bands and artists such as Steve Lee, The Tyrone Smith Revue (Super T), Matt Long, Debbie Forrest, and as half of the duo Tag.She has been featured on rap, pop, children, and folk albums in addition to having three solo albums herself. Her most recent album, "Home", is all original music, most of which she wrote in the relaxing style that she uses in the hospital, but it also shows off some unique effects provided by the electric harp."Home" is available for purchase on awarestore.com and cdbaby.com, as is her Christmas album "Silent Night" and some really cool t shirts too.

My Interests

Music:

Influences: Deborah Henson-Conant, Claude Debussy, Gabriel Faure, Penny Howk Beavers, East Mountain South, David Gray, Tawny Cox
Sounds Like: While Betty-Ashton was classically trained, and is known to play "typical" harp music for weddings and other events, that's not what you're going to hear at one of her shows. Her use of the electric harp lends itself to sounding somewhat like a melodic and viby electric guitar...but with 6 times the number of strings.
