SUMMER 2008
Audrey Lavergne and I decided to put a duo together, just my electric guitar and our two voices, in order to tour a little this past summer.
Well, we ended up doing 23 gigs in the various Partouche casinos, and four gigs as a opening act for "Me and Mrs. Jones" Billy Paul.
Quite an adventure!
We had some good times, some... interesting times, and a few moments of grace.
The last night was at the Elysée Montmartre in Paris, we had to fight to get an even twenty minutes of play, but after twenty or so concerts, well, things just fall into place, a nice feeling.
I'm thinking about a new recording project, completely unexpected, and we have an important gig with my band in Toulouse on the 14th of November.
Here are some pics... See you then. LK
The third solo excursion:
Lone Kent has come up with nine finely chiselled songs and one instrumental that perpetuate Lone Kent’s pop rock heritage but takes it into unexpected territories. He manages to swerve between Hector Zazou’s electronica (with whom he has often recorded), Rhys Chatham’s 100 guitars density (with whom he is a section leader) and pure pop song form, leaving the listener humming melodies long afterwards...
This time he mixes electro beats and synth sounds that outline his guitaristic outbursts, sometimes smooth and caressing, at other times simply chaotic.
His vocals are as compelling and strong as ever, from storytelling to aggressive ranting on modern humanity.
He has a four piece touring band ready to go, that gives a surprising and exciting rendition of these songs in tradition with the guitar, keyboard, bass and drums setup.
The songwriting remains fluid and simple but hides a craftsmanship reminiscent of Radiohead or even David Bowie. The topic of the lyrics range from sweet naivety to poetic digressions on the state of the world but the writing is trimmed down to what remains essential, touching the soul of the listener. The sound is sometimes extremely dense, with layers of vocals and guitars capturing the listener unrelentingly; other times with very little instrumentation, a couple of guitars and a garbage bin, Lone Kent uses the space between the notes as a source of inspiration. "What I like most about music is the sound it makes, the notes are almost a pretext... sounscaping, taking a ride. The band and I are starting to get in gear to play some concerts to promote my 3rd CD "OYSTERS".
I also teach guitar and have some interesting workshops at a school here in Toulouse.
Some projects that I enjoy doing: Rhys Chatham's 100 Guitars, GuitarKestra , Audrey Lavergne , ...
Lone Kent is an American guitarist, singer and songwriter, who has traveled the world. His father's career in the foreign service brought him to Germany (where he was born), to Vietnam, Thailand, Lebanon, Greece, France, England and Scotland, to name but a few. That's how, very young, he was able to embrace a multitude of exotic sounds and impressions.
After four years at Berklee College of Music in Boston, several years were spent touring the East Coast, performing his own material. Feeling the urge to move on, he winds up in San Francisco, making a living playing seven nights a week in a wild Fern Bar. "Learn all you can, then forget everything and just play" his teachers used to say!
