Bouley Upstairs.
About Me
Bouley Upstairs is located on West Broadway and Duane Street in the heart of Tribeca. Own by David Bouley, Upstairs is a unique French/Italian/Japanese dining experience. With only 16 tables, the space is quite limited. It opens at 5 pm Monday through Saturday. At 5:30 pm on a Monday night the restaurant was quite full. The general theme is a clean, modern environment. Calming with green marble tables and maroon accents all over the restaurant. Bouley Upstairs offers a wide variety of desserts. On this particular night my guests and I ordered the chocolate soufflé. The chocolate soufflé is baked to order with a piece of Valrhona 61% dark chocolate in the middle. The soufflé is served with chocolate, vanilla bean, and maple ice cream. When the dessert gets to you at the table it is oozing with chocolate. The first bite melts in your mouth. The soufflé is rich and creamy. The best ingredients are included. The dessert lives up to the menu and name of the restaurant expectations. Although it seems like a simple dessert, the chocolate soufflé may be the best that I have ever had. The dessert is just enough without leaving you like you want more or that you are overly full. Bouley Upstairs offers a clean, simple flavored menu. But with the use of the best ingredients the flavors are decedent. You wouldn’t expect something so simple to taste so rich and incredible. The other two desserts that were ordered that the table were the Chocolate Crème Brulee and the Strawberry Soup. The chocolate crème brulee is silky smooth, rich, and perfectly chocolaty. It has just the right amount of brunt sugar on top where you can crack it but you aren’t eating a thick layer of sugar. The plating is somewhat disappointing. It is just served on a plate in the ramekin, but it goes with the simplicity of the other desserts. Some of the best crème brulee I have ever had. The other was the strawberry soup. It had pureed strawberries and poached halved strawberries and three scoops of lemon sorbet. The simplicity of the flavors where consistent with the rest. It is a tart dish with just the right amount of sweetness. Although on its own it is scrumptious compared to the other desserts it isn’t anything that special. All three desserts are worth having. I recommend Bouley desserts to anyone and everyone.
