It all started with an offer of free champagne and a few gigs at a cocktail bar...
Eloise, who has been singing in showbands for the past 7 years, got together with Andy Booth, who has been playing classical masterpieces since the dawn of time, to work on a jazz set for a residency down at Bar Isis in Chesterfield.
A year later they recorded a demo, passed it around the jazz venues in Sheffield and were surprised at the reaction it got. Feeling the need to expand they collared Rob Straw, who plays just about any brass instrument he can lay his hands on, to join them for a gig at Ruskins. The work kept coming in, and when The Walnut Club asked for a gig with a 4 piece, they completed the line up with Matt Whiteley (demi god on a drum stool).
They can now be found playing at Ruskins, The Ivory, The Walnut Club, West St Live and The Damhouse. They played at On The Waterfront festival in June and are booked to play at Summer Sounds festival in Tudor Square in August.
So..."I get no kick from Champagne..." but it did help bring together a very happy jazz band. :-)
