The Story so far
20.04.1982
Mick is born. His Mother and Father named him 'Michael', but Michael is better known now as 'Mick' these days.circa 1996
Mick plays a guitar for the first time and immediately becomes interested, so he saves his paper route money for a number of weeks (on a good week Mick would earn 40-45 pounds), then sells it to a friend for £150. Cash in hand Mick goes to Sports Connection and buys the latest Kappa track-suit.May 1998
Mick's girlfriend receives a guitar for her birthday from her Father. Mick casually picks up the guitar and starts to play regularly.Late 1998
Mick and some friends start a band. They call themselves the 'Fever' then change their mind and call themselves 'Smokescreen' because the drummer thought it was cool.Early 1999
The drummer also thought that Mick wasn't that good at singing, so suggested with the best intentions and utmost delicacy that Mick seekout a singing teacher. Mick tells the drummer "who the f*** ye talkin tay ya w***, you need tay git yir a*** tay a drummin' f***** teacher ya beast."
Mick seeks out Mr Marchetti, a flamboyant singin' teacher.Mick was to enter Mr Marchettis house for the best part of the next 3-4 years and can now sing very well.circa 2000
Smokescreen are a little different from when they started. Mick and guitarist Jaz are the only original members and they are now joined by Chris on drums; the previous drummer coming to an untimely death when he died of shock whilst hearing Mick sing 'Nessun Dorma' in the studio one day.Mid 2001
Jaz's Father suggests one day that they should get a builders-goods salesman to manage them. They immediately agreed. Alex Hamilton had them playing King Tuts within no time, for the two years they were gigging regularly to sell out crowds, playing with acts such as Franz Ferdinand, Joseph Arthur, H2o, and many more. They also worked with Brian McNeil at Gravity Studios, and even had Eddi Reader as a fan. Then they split up.Late 2003
Mick goes into a deep depression and excorts himself out of Glasgow and up to Dundee, where he remained till Mid 2005. (more info on Mick's Dundee experience can be found in the aptly named "Dundee").Mid 2006
Now back in Glasgow, Mick recieves a phone call from a man named 'Damian', who asks Mick to go to Newcastle and sing some songs for his Sony BMG artists/writers, Letrix. So Mick, now back in cahoots with former Smokescreen gaffer Alex (himself now a renowned music mogul) rides down to Newcastle. Mick sings a few songs over a few months before riding back.Mid 2007
After spending countless years writing, and with the fear of forgetting everything, Mick phones Ged.
Ged is a pianist/guitarist/bassist/producer/engineer and an all round good cat. Anyway Ged says to Mick " aye, no problem mate, bounce over and we'll record some stuff". Mick gratefully accepts and promptly bounces over to Geds. Since then Mick and Ged have been performing and recording tunes, old and new, with a desire to grab peoples attention and entertain, albeit sometimes with heartache but always with commitment.Early 2008
Mick, Ged and Alex would like to thank everyone for there support and they cant wait to take you all on a musical voyage..........
