Having lived with each other in various dives in Birmingham for 4 years or so, and already played in bands together like 3 1/2 Inch Floppy, Lashed Up and Isor, we decided to form a new band out of the housemates (Minus Will DeNiro, who provided inspiration, spiritual guidance and eye candy instead..). So in Autumn 2002 The Hunchbacks had a few practices in my attic bedroom, which has a ceiling about 4 feet from the floor and would've caused us to get crooked spines had we continued.
We played a few local gigs in the Birmingham area in Winter and then by March we were getting pretty eager to inflict a bit of our pop-punk on people further afield, so we went into the studio to record our first CD.
Sebby Zatopek released our 4 recorded tracks on CD through his label All Nite Records, as a split album with the Waukees from Pisa, Italy and the Battledykes from Cologne, Germany! The CD is just about still available through All Nite mail order, from us and at our shows. Following the release of the CD we did a Mini-tour of Holland with the Accelerators in spring of 2004 & a full UK & Ireland tour with Nottingham pop punkers, Panic! in the summer. Following swiftly on the heels of this was more Dutch shows including a slot at the Rotterdam Rumble! Logistical changes (i.e. we moved out of our shared house & into different cities/countries) have led to a more sporadic approach to gigs & a few line up changes over the years (read, "it's always the 2nd guitarist"). Original Hunchback Paul went Globe Trotting (sans-basketball) - returning with a great stories & a wife to be! Next up was a brave & virtious stint by Sammie the Giant of Zatopeks...but another UK exodus left us 6 strings short. Fortune would have it that following some shows with The Atoms from Derby we were able to wangle the finest coffee maker in the East Midlands to join our ranks...sadly the coffee machine couldn't play guitar, so insted we got Joe Atom!! So now it's summer 2007 and buswaggon Hunchback rolls on, calling at "Destination Fun!" whenever duty calls. There's talk of recording in the air & hopefully more shows on the horrizon. So please come & say "Hello" should we ever dock at your shore, pass by your door or sleep on your floor!......................................................
