Passion flirts with soul
Hailing from Toronto, this singer/songwriter’s voice caresses your soul while her lyrics ignite your passion. Ms Paige marries R&B with the pulsating rhythm of the islands, treating her audience to an eclectic, spicy sound with each note she sings.
Singing since the age of conception, Ms Paige grew up in a very musical family. Granddaughter of Trinidad's famous musical duo, Ed & Angela Johnson and daughter of Canadian entertainer and 6-time Juno nominee, Debbie Johnson, Ms Paige was born to entertain. She began her professional recording career at the early age of 10 with recordings for Sesame Street and Canadian environmentalist David Suzuki's CD "Amazing Journey". In 2004, Ms Paige began fusing her love for R&B with the music of her heritage, soca and calypso. She then united with three other artistes on the Toronto soca scene to form the eclectic group, EleMental, with partners in crime FreakNasty, SugaKane, and Diamond, where Ms Paige was the female vocalist.
So, why the name Ms Paige?! The men of EleMental are behind the creation of the name, as they brainstormed to determine what her alias should be back in '04. Born Ashley Johnson, Paige, being one of her middle names, was the winning vote by her group mates. With Janet Jackson as a great influence in her artistry, the saying began, "No my name ent baby, it's Ashley... Ms Paige if yuh nasty!"
“Sexy, yet lyrically tasteful – her creativity shows a perfect mesh between the heat of the islands and R&B as we know it†- Anonymous
Her music is often thought of as a comparison of Janet Jackson meets Alison Hinds or Alicia Keys meets Destra Garcia – a heated combination of R&B and soca. Her latest track "Man Fi Borrow" off the Red Bonez Riddim (produced by Derek Brin & Garry Serrao) is climbing up the charts on Toronto-lime.com and being well received worldwide in Toronto, NY, Miami, the UK, Germany, and Barbados. She has worked with various producers throughout Ontario, New York, Trinidad, St. Lucia, and Grenada. Looking to take the world by storm, she strives to leave her mark in music history.
To date, she has performed in a number of shows, including Carnival In Yuh Backyard, the Rivoli nightclub, Trinidad & Tobago independence day celebrations, and various university culture shows at York University and University of Windsor, and a lead singer for St. Kitts Music Inc.
“What can I say? Music is my drug. I’m an addict. And there is no cure.â€
