I originally got into drum n bass in 2001 when some friends started going to raves at the Sanctuary in MK and listening to the music more and more while I was at uni, when I came back that summer I started regularly attending raves here and across London that summer and soon found myself hooked on the energy of the beats and bass.
About a year later I decided to bite the bullet and get some decks as I really fancied a go at DJ'ing myself. From this point I was pretty addicted to it and would spend far too much of my time annoying house mates with my constant clanging, well to start with anyway ;)
I first started playing out in January 2003 at a local weekly DnB night where I managed to blag my way on to the decks after going along for a few weeks, looking back it was probably far too soon for it and its a good thing I left the country for 6 months for Spain and couldn't get a slot anywhere else!
It really was something I wanted to do though, and after far more practice I eventually secured a residency at Uncertified in Aylesbury, a night set up by Sean Moore (R.I.P) and Wilsh, in an attempt to bring something other than the normal DJ's and anthems to a small town.
Since then I have been lucky enough to play at a variety of different locations around the South East, notable highlights including winning competitions to play at both Ministry Of Sound and Brixton Academy, as well as DJing at Moondance on New Year's Eve two out of the previous three years.
I am slowly but surely starting to get to grips with the whole production lark as well, which seems to be compulsory these days, can't say I 100% agree with DJ's not being able to break through based purely on talent, but at the same time, hearing a tune you have helped produce in a club is quite a buzz in itself. Watch out for Tribal Connection by Madcap and myself forthcoming on Jerona Fruits sometime in the near future.
Most recently, I have been involved in the conception of a new night in London called Synthesis which will be debuting at The Rhythm Factory on 15th August, see the flyer below for more details!
