About Me

Chris S. Heath started his musical career by playing the drums in the school band, when in 8th grade he heard his sister playing the piano and was inspired to learn to play as well.
Playing the piano came very natural to Chris and he first studied for 5 years with the late Jan Kryscowski who noticed his natural talent right away. After playing for only 6 months, Chris was learning to play by ear such Billy Joel classics as Angry Young Man & New York State Of Mind. Although sight reading did not come as easy, his knack for playing by ear was noticable right from the start.
Throughout high school, Chris was lucky to have the chance to learn the foundations of music under the guidance of David Lockart & Perry Andrews. In the fall of 1992, Chris attended Wagner College and studied music history, theory & vocal performance. After three semesters, he decided to transfer to the Berklee College of Music and graduated in 1997 with a B.M. in Songwriting with a minor in Film Scoring.
Having the chance to study with great songwriters & lyric writers, (Jimmy Kachulis, John Aldrich, Pat Pattison, & Jack Perricone, among others) Chris embraced the music language and the craft of songwriting & composition. He was fortunate enough to also study with the amazing late jazz pianist, Dean Earl, accomplished piano and Hammond organ player Dave Limina and progressive rock keyboardist, Derek Sherinian (Alice Cooper, Dream Theater, Billy Idol, Planet X). And although Chris has been inspired by and learned from countless musicians, his greatest influence has been the music of the band Phish, and the keyboard style of Page McConnell, who really opened his ears to the art of improvisation.
In 2002, Chris married his Boston sweetheart, Fara, and settled in Portland, OR in 2004. In most recent personal news, Chris & Fara are new proud parents of Miles Nolan born Sept. 8, 2006. Chris also obtained a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Portland and plans to continue his love for teaching in various settings. Chris currently teaches both piano and guitar to students ages 5 to 65 and works as a studio musician and producer.
Chris also hopes to continue to collaborate and work with old & new musician friends. If you are interested in booking Chris for studio work, songwriting or film composition, drop an email with your contact and project info.
