FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions)
1. What is Out of the Wilderness? How did it start?
Out of the Wilderness is an all volunteer music project that seeks to raise awareness of, and support for, the persecuted church--christians who are suffering in other countries. Our 45-minute performance incorporates music, drama, video, and speaking. In closing, we tell audience members specific ways they can help the persecuted church.
I started Out of the Wilderness in 2003, with friends Viviana Lang (vocals), Robert Waldmann (bass, guitar), and dramatists JR & Heather Lawson, and their five children. We played out at several churches in West Palm Beach, Florida. I had heard about the persecuted church through a friend who spoke at The Refuge about the plight of suffering Christians abroad. After hearing her speak, I read through a magazine by Voice of the Martyrs. Shortly thereafter, I requested their free (at the time) book Tortured for Christ . I read the book three times, crying during parts of it, underlining and highlighting throughout. Then, I heard about Gospel for Asia and requested their free book Revolution in World Missions . Read that book twice and recommended it to friends. The combination of reading those books, and reading through Voice of the Martyrs , and God giving me songs, encouraged me to start Out of the Wilderness, a music ministry to raise awareness of, and support for, the persecuted church.
2. Who wrote the songs?
Unless otherwise noted, I (Kris Kemp) did. JR & Heather Lawson wrote "Father". Ann Powell wrote "imprisoned soul". Dennis Jernigan wrote "All in All". All of these songs were recorded on a digital multi-track recorder that a friend sold me when I worked as a cook at restaurant in 2003. After receiving the multi-track, I began laying down music tracks on my keyboard. For the acoustic versions of "Can you hear?" and "Remember me", Pastor Jack Soliglub (The River Church of God) allowed me to bring my multi-track into the church and record using the grand piano. The songs were recorded over a period of about 18 months, when I lived in downtown West Palm Beach and then later at Scott Thorot's house in Palm Beach Gardens. I started writing the songs around 2001 and continued until about 2004.
3. How can I sponsor a missionary?
Here's some terrific ministries where you can sponsor a missionary for $35-or-less a month.
$30 a month - Gospel for Asia
$35 a month - Voice of the Martyrs
$35 a month - International Christian Concern
4. What's with the song "Travellin' with the juiceman"?
That's just a fun song that I wrote in 2003 when I was doing a lot of juicing (raw vegetables). At the time, I was living with Scott Thourot, and we were both into juicing and eating healthy. He allowed me to live with him, but he had a roommate occupying the only other bedroom. So, I lived in his living room, slept on the couch, and had my keyboard and digital multi-track recorder and drumset set up in the kitchen. Because I didn't have a room, the rent was minimal. A part of the rent agreement was that I made him fresh vegetable juice every morning. In a way, I guess you could say I was his houseboy. One day I was Goodwill and found the tape cassette that goes with The Juiceman Junior , narrated by Jay Kordich known as "the juiceman". Throughout the narration, Kordich tells stories of people who've been cured from diseases after incorporating juicing into their diet regimen. When I returned home, I started playing the tape along with this dance song that I'd written, and then putting them together, and that's how this song came about.
Scott and I used to dumpster dive behind Nutrition S'mart on Northlake Boulevard, and then return home and juice the vegetables, after washing them of course. One night, Scott and I attended a seminar by George Malkimus , the guy from Hallelujah Acres , along with friends Deanna and Ryan, two Palm Beach Atlantic College kids that helped me run The Refuge, a Christian coffeehouse in this warehouse where I used to live. Eating primarily raw fruits and vegetables provides the oxygen and enzymes necessary to prevent and cure most diseases. Because the FDA (Food and Death Administration) and pharmaceautical companies are businesses out to make money, they ridicule natural remedies because they cannot patent them. If you want to learn how to cure disease and lose weight, please visit my health website boost your immune system for a plethora of free information. I like helping people so please do yourself a favor and check it out. Thanks.
5. How do I contact you?
You can e-mail me by sending an e-mail to: [email protected] . Or, you can call my cell phone at: 561-255-2545. Or, you can write me a letter: Kris Kemp, 712 Winters Street, West Palm Beach, Florida 33401
6. Do you have CD's available for sale?
I have CD's but a very limited amount. If you'd like one, let me know what songs you enjoy, and I'll find the CD that has those songs on it, then send you one. If you can, please send a self-addressed stamped envelope, one that can hold a CD, to offset the costs. Send it to the above address. If you have a CD burner, feel free to burn the mp3's at this website onto a CD. Do this as often as you want. I only ask that you refer people to this website or sponsor a missionary.
7. What exactly does Out of the Wilderness do at a presentation?
Our presentations last about 45-minutes to an hour. I start with an introduction and a mission statement, and then let the audience know what they're going to see. "Tonight, you'll hear music, you'll see a drama, and you'll watch a video. The purpose of our presentation is to illustrate the realities of the persecuted church. Following our presentation, we'll tell you specific ways you can help, and then we'll open up to questions. Thank you for coming tonight." At this point, I start playing the song "Can you hear" and me and a volunteer or two or three sing the song while other volunteers act out the lyrics to the song with drama. Then, I show a 10-12 minute video by International Christian Concern . The video is a heart-wrenching look at the suffering church, with graphic photos and revealing interviews. Often, I hear crying in the audience. It's really moving. Following the video, I go to the piano or keyboard and start playing "Remember me", along with girl or woman singing the female part. Then, I speak for about 5-10 minutes, encouraging audience members to pray for, fast for, and sponsor missionaries working in areas where persecution is commonplace. I encourage them to support missionaries and take some brochures that are located on a table near the door. I ask if there are any questions. If there are none, I close in prayer.
8. Do you get paid by Gospel for Asia, Voice of the Martyrs, or International Christian Concern?
No. I suggest that people sponsor missionaries through these organizations. These ministries appear to be efficient in supporting missionaries who work in areas where persecution is commonplace. Because indigenous (native) missionaries know the culture, speak the language, and live at the same economic level as the people they are evangelizing, they can reach greater numbers of people and the financial support required by them is far less than that of Western missionaries.
A while back, I actually looked into volunteering for Gospel for Asia but I don't want to live in Texas, and I'm somewhat scared of getting Morgellon's although this guy says he has a cure for it.
As God has given me these songs and the ability to put together these presentations and build websites, I think that this is the best way to reach people--by using music and drama to illustrate the realities of the persecuted church. This way, I can point people to ministries that support indigenous (native) missionaries.
9. What do you do for a living?
I buy and sell land lots in Florida and I'm marketing website at www.passporttowealth101.com , an automated website that sells software and memberships as well. Recently, I completed www.FlipFloridaLand.com , a manual that shows people how to find land in Florida at bargain prices, for as little as $2,000 dollars, and resell it for a profit.
Another website that I run is Curebug , a natural health and wellness website with free daily content on natural cures that work, including cures for cancer, arthritis, obesity, depression, and more. Do someone a favor and tell them about this site. It's at www.curebug.com . All of these enterprises involve website design and marketing. For the last six months or so, I've been working on a website for my Mom, who teaches Bible prophecy and speaks at various churches.
9. Do you mind if I save these mp3's to a CD rom and make copies of them?
No. I don't mind. Burn as many copies of these songs as you want. Listen to the music and let it inspire you to live for The Lord Jesus Christ. Tell others about the persecuted church. Please support a missionary working in a country where persecution is commonplace.
