Biography
Through his early days at high-school in the late 70s Rickys ears where filled with early disco throu to the anarchic sound of the late punk era and then flung feet first into the then New Romantic sound of the 80s. . looking back at the time it just felt that all modern music was all about being part of something Ricky says. In the early years it was his brother that always had the musical genius, from playing the drums and guitar at an early age to ending up creating noises from early analogue synthesizers the house was always filled with music in one form or another.Throu the early 80s Ricky listened to such bands as Japan, Talk Talk, Depeche Mode, China Crisis and the then almost unheard of U2.
Eventually after leaving school in 1983 and going to college Ricky started to listen to listen to early electro and Chicago influenced dance music. Not really enjoying hip hop he started listening to a new house sound that was emerging. Finally in the summer of 89 a trip for a weekend to London made its mark, flicking throu the radio stations one Friday evening at a mates flat whilst getting ready to go out we found Sunrise fm.......
So even at that point d.j ing was not the option mearly being part of the scene was enough, going to the parties, buying the records, it was all part of something. Over the early years Ricky has played at such clubs as Miss Moneypennies in Birmingham and around the country on various club tours such as Gods Kitchen, Slinky and Cream.
In December 2002 Ricky launched Somewhere with dedicated website www.somewhere4u.co.uk creating a new avenue for the east of England regions clued up clubbers. Keeping an underground vibe to these nights has always been important. With Ricky as resident warming up for some of the worlds finest house d.js has taught him how to read a crowd, building the night up without going over the top. His events have featured guests including Pete Tong, Danny Rampling, Radio 1s Lottie and Yousef, Mr C, Pete Heller, Terry Farley, Underwaters ( underwaterrecords.com ) Mutiny, X Press2, Lisa Loud, Jon Carter and DC10 residents Clive Henry and Jo Mills.
When DC10s Jo Mills guested, she and partner legendary club promoter Charlie Chester were so impressed with Rickys skills it prompted her to mention the night in her monthly iDJ magazine report saying " seeing as we play the world over at all the best parties its great to hear a brilliant English d.j warm up for me in Norwich last month, with a doubt one of the best warm up sets we have ever heard "This then led to Ricky being invited to play at Charlie Chesters launch party at the award winning Egg London ( www.egglondon.net ).
2004 also saw Ricky awarded a residency on a 15 date national tour of Po Na Na venues ( www.ponana.com ) taking in cities across the country including Bath, Bristol, Cambridge, Lincoln, Edinburgh, Oxford, Reading, Leicester and Norwich. Guest d.js on this tour included Danny Rampling, Radio 1s Yousef and Jon Carter.
On the European front 2003s highlight saw Ricky play Barcelonas 3500 capacity Ei Bi Si whilst summer 2004 he has been over to Ibiza playing at pool partys, guesting various clubs and playing on the beach at Kanya plus a special one hour live mix on Ibizas Holiday FM.
2005 saw a move to London coincide with further notable bookings at the Egg, Turnmills for Tribal Sessions and the Pacha London mainroom for Circo Loco Ibiza. Add to this a monthly residency at Neighbourhood in West London and 2005 was a busy year. Culminating in Rickys own Somewhere New Years Eve party with special guests X-Press 2
So far in 2006 Ricky has spent more time concentrating on his own productions and remixes whilst his Somewhere brand has grown with events across the U.K. This summer has seen more bookings at Pacha London whilst hosting a room for the Gallery @ Turnmills concentrating on the more deeper tech house side of the house genre. With further " live " mixes broadcast on the web and across Ibiza via Holiday FM Ibiza.
2007 saw a weekly radio show in Ibiza every Saturday night throughout the summer whilst Ricky's Somewhere parties saw such guests as Layo & Bushwacka!, Mr C, Jo Mills, Tim Sheridan and Danny Howells.
So far in 2008 we have seen the launch of Somewhere Recordings and guest appearances from Manon ( Cocoon, Switzerland ) and Konrad Black ( M_Nus ). Further Somewhere gigs this summer will feature Sasse from Moodmusic Berlin and some rather special Ibiza parties.....
