TENILLE
Virginia is a music hit factory producing some of the hottest names in the industry - Chris Brown, Missy Elliott, Timbaland, Pharell, Clipse and Tre Songz to name a few. Now there's a new VA girl ready to represent the love state and her name is Tenille.
Tenille should be a star by now, at least that's how it seems from the outside looking in. The soft-spoken boricua has model-good looks, classic voice and inspiring story to tell. She's worked with veteran producers and her music has played on radio. She's performed before thousands but not everyone knows her name, her struggle and determination to make it. But that's about to change...the best kept secret is about to be told.
"People always look at my complexion, my hair, my petite frame, and wonder what my ethnicity is or where I'm from." Nherie Tenille Tellado was born in Germany but raised in Virginia (Richmond). Her mother is African American, her father Puerto Rican but the truth is "my life wasn't about growing up with both mommy and daddy in the nice little home with security. It was about making due with what you had...and what you didn't have."
What she's always had was the ability to sing even from the time she could walk. By her teen years she'd written numerous gospel inspired songs and had even performed them in local churches with her two sisters. Deep down inside she knew she could be a star. "I always imagined giving a thank you speech at the Grammys as a lil girl."
Tenille was raised listening to The Commodores, Billy Joel and Elton John to Michael, Janet, Madonna and Whitney. In high school she listened to R&B heavies Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, and Faith Evans among many others. Later she'd learn to appreciate the range and vocal styling of Minnie Ripperton and others in her genre, whom some people have said she is reminiscent of. But one can only hear for themselves and agree that her voice is one of a kind...young, fresh, sexy and cool...contemporary yet timeless.
Tenille became a hometown sensation when her demo single "Up Against The Wall" landed in rotation on Power 92. Produced by The Matrax the song would be a preview of things to come. Magazine covers, radio and tv interviews along with numerous shows quickly gave her a taste of the limelight. During her development Tenille worked with several industry producers including Timmy Allan (Britney Spears, Back Street Boys, Nivea), Lamont Fleming (Chris Brown, Destiny's Child) and Gerard Thomas (Missy Elliott, Ashanti, Tyrese).
Along the way she experienced first hand the ups and downs about the music business. Being on the verge of stardom is something Tenille has learned can sometimes be a blessing. "I never felt desperate to get a deal if I didn't feel comfortable or was being taken for granted."
Recently Tenille signed with The System, imprint label for production team The Matrax (Diddy, Fabolous, Tweet, Petey Pablo) and is busy working on her yet to be titled debut CD. With anthems for the club, feminine independence and ride-or-die love her R&B-Pop-Soul sound is about to switch the game up. "I've sacrificed alot and in the end my day will come and my story will be told."
Lucky for us she's ready to share it with the world.
