Our Story:In 1953, Bishop Frank and Ruth Munsey, the parents of the current pastor, Dr. Stephan Munsey, founded a church in Hessville, Indiana. It was quite a small church, starting with no members, and it grew until they outgrew the little building where they worshiped. They built a new, much larger building in Griffith and moved in.
In 1985, the elder Munseys felt it was time to get back to the mission field, and their son, Steve Munsey, was elected pastor. The church soon grew to more than 1,500 members, and the Griffith building was far too small. Thus, Family Christian Center of Munster was born. The pastors and congregants moved into a new $14 million building on Easter, 2000. This new building features state-of-the art lighting and sound system along with a stage that is 180 x 40 feet, featuring a permanent set of Old Jerusalem.
Since moving into the new building on Easter, 2000, the size of the facility has doubled. The childrens and youths programs have expanded to almost fill the colorful, exciting, technology-filled classrooms and the half-court size gymnasium/auditorium, the gymnatorium. The childrens rooms are dominated by murals, stages with their own sound systems, playrooms, snack areas, and excellent volunteer teachers.
Current weekly attendance figures are about 10,000, requiring three services each Sunday. Pastor Steve's great heart and gigantic vision is not finished yet. There are plans for a new, larger auditorium as well as facilities for other ministries still in their infancy.
