Excerpt from "The Crown of Silence":

"It was the Caradorean poet Almoretia Crow. Her most striking idea was that it is folly for us to think that we can have true knowledge of everything. She felt that all truth was relative. She was a tortured soul, who believed that all conflict arose from fear, a fear that leads people to justify their beliefs enough to kill and be killed. She wrote that the only way to conquer this terrible condition of the soul was simply to accept things for what they were. Almoretia proclaimed through her songs that the only way to accept this was to live as if there were nothing beyond this life, as if we were born from nothing and thus will return to nothing."

"But, if that is true, what are we to make of our lives then?" Shan asked.

"That is the beauty of her philosophy," Sinaclara said, "because, if our future is not preordained, if it is merely a big black nothing, then what we project into that nothing will be our purpose. And this can be anything which we ourselves affirm and more importantly, choose."

"It sounds difficult and lonely," Shan said.

"It is," Sinaclara said. "That's the whole point, Shan. Almoretia's dirges spoke to me, even though I don't wholeheartedly agree with them. They tell of the great anguish of being abandoned to our own choices, of having no god who gives succor, purpose and answers, who can take responsibility for our life and all the choices and mistakes that we might make. And that anguish of responsibility, of being responsible for everything in our world, is the only misery of life. But joy and ecstasy can be found when we affirm our choices, in the face of nothing. I learned the hard way that if something bad happens because of a choice I make, then I must affirm it as if I willed it to happen, as if it had been my goal." She leaned over to him earnestly and her voice became a low hiss. "Every pit of misery, every instance of suffering, hardship and heartache, affirm it, Shan, as your own, as your life, in the face of nothing."

Shan swallowed with difficulty, feeling as if she'd slapped him. Did she know about what had happened to him?

"If you can do this," Sinaclara said softly, "then you are what Almoretia termed a genuine man, a man of great strength, whom no other can crush or conquer. Affirm it, take it into yourself. Take strength from it...""

There are social and political issues that intrest me because they reflect the bad choices human beings have been making since the beginning of time. These choices give far too much over to an invisible god, and far too much over to the pursuit of profit and ownership. I think both the country and the species have long since lost their way because of these distractions or attractions, and therefore, I feel kind of divorced from all of that. I don't feel better or superior or anything like that - but i just feel....separate.

Hip Hop is many things to many people. To some its a fad to take advantage, of until the money has dried up. For others it is the in thing to emulate and be apart of, if for no other reason, just to fit in. However, for us, and many others, hip hop is food for our souls and an essence of our being. Hip Hop is raw emotion, and an education on the truth. However, hip hop has lost its edge and become a dull knife that can be played with, and used by just about anyone. It has become sex, the objectification of women, the glorification of ignorance, materialistic, one-dimensional, fraudulent, and unoriginal. Hip hop is now pop music. Its the McDonalds for the music industry; cheap, tasty to the masses, and grossly unhealthy. We are at a point where hip hop is now in the ears of millions upon millions of people all over the world. Now is the time for change. We must bring back the substance and ingredients that made hip hop special in the first place. Music is the most influential voice to the people. Everyone is listening. Lets give them something to listen to. This is, FLOW.....For the Love Of Words.

I'd love to say that was all me, but it epitomizes the way i feel about Hip-Hop today...SUPPORT CONSCIOUS RAP!! . . . . .www.simplyflow.com
