Mike Squire - New Troubadour, wannabe urban poet, day dreaming 12 string strummer. A great believer in the three minute song with a conventional structure (verse, chorus, middle eight etc.) A liking for thoughtful, imaginative lyrics, with a bit of wit and satire thrown in. Songs of love, songs of good times, good company and the people you meet on your journey. Songs of nostalgia, longing, aspirations and the spiritual.
Born in Bromley, Kent. Played in a variety of bands during the eighties, including the Chatham based Clockwork Spiders. Several of their Simple Minds/Stranglers influenced tracks were played on BBC radio at the time. In the nineties. Mike moved to Milton Keynes were he had a long break from public performace apart from playing in church. During this time he wrote or collaborated with old school friend Andy Friis (Saxophone/MIDI sequencing). In 1999 at an Open University summer school, Mike performed a couple of his songs at the end of session do. It went down well, so he decided to try live performing again and he helped set up a 60s-80s covers band to gain more experience before unleashing his own stuff on the Stony Stratford folk/acoustic scene.
Sice then he has played at the Stony Live Festival (2004/05/06), at Newport Pagnell Riverside Festival, Shenley Brook End Picnic in the Park, Wolverton In the Square Festival and MK Music Festival plus a number of local pubs, private do’s and Church social events.
Started duo with Janet in 2005, sometimes combined as a trio with Phil. A new name for this act will shortly be picked.
