The Whysmen

About Me

The Whysmen are the latest addition to the ever-expanding Atlanta music scene, bringing with them jazz, funk, hip-hop, reggae, blues, and rock influences. The Whysmen have been well received by regional audiences, with their shows described as intense, honest, and exciting. After a full year of playing gigs in 2006, they recorded a hand full of songs “Scattered and Covered” Finally giving their fans something tangible to put in their hands. The Whysmen consist of Calvin Silcox on the bass, Joe Burgess on the drums, and Sean Bulow on the guitar, although Calvin does the majority of the singing they all share vocal duties. Calvin’s ability to play a wide variety of instruments allows him to channel that knowledge into his versatile bass playing. Having a knack for sounds and melodies Calvin gives the music color and relentless energy. Joe spent years on the road cultivating his chops, and through the help of his mentor Jeff Sipe (Apt. Q-258), he reinvented his playing style. Being grounded in the fundamentals of rhythm, Joe cultivates a new and refreshing touch on the drums, providing the steady pulsations that drive the Whysmen sound. Sean’s jazz, blues, and rock influences color the band’s groove and keeps the music fresh and moving forward. His jazz mentality and emotional style is the lifeblood of the Whysmen sound. The chemistry between these musicians is priceless. The vibrant and pulsing energy that they emit is the unique element, which sets them apart from other acts. In a nutshell, The Whysmen have soul.
