The meaning of my names backwards is “red-haired lily child of Christmas.” Ironically, the name that means “child of Christmas” spelled backwards is “ahsatan” (ah satan). Sorry, I don’t believe in devils, demons, hell or any other similar superstitions – to me, they’re about as real as unicorns (which I wish WERE real so that one could live in my yard). I was born left-handed and with red hair, and I have been avidly observing the moon and almost every lunar cycle since I was 13. Its change is never-ending yet the cycle is constant, which is comforting and mesmerizing. I am similarly fascinated and soothed by bodies of water, especially the sea, and by working in my gardens. I feel things deeply, remember things clearly, hate coffee, and have the strongest sense of smell of any person I have ever met. I have two tattoos on my shoulders and a birthmark on the back of my calf the same shape and size as a razor blade. I am forthright and honest. (If I accidentally don't get charged for something from anywhere, I'll always go back and pay, to the clerks' amazement.)
After 7 years in the same place, I moved to an awesome new house in fall 2007 after searching for six months!! I still have 1 room full of boxes that I’m just now finding the time to sort through. There is so much to be done, but I love this place and am eagerly anticipating getting it completely set up.
On May 11, 2008 I finally graduated - summa cum laude - after having attempted intermittently to get through college since 1994. I finally ended up receiving a BA degree in chemistry with a mathematics minor (and I was also supposed to have a Latin minor, but the college discontinued the program when I had one class left). This was after first pursuing possible majors/career paths in writing, violin performance, music theory, theoretical physics, history, women's studies/the sacred feminine, nutrition, neuropsychology, botany, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, herbalism, environmental science, allopathic and naturopathic medicine, and perhaps a couple others that I'm not recalling just now. I still haven’t given up on a lot of these tantalizingly interesting paths, and I have absolutely no idea which one to take now, although being an astrologer might be interesting as well as allowing for creativity, writing, symbolic thinking, self-understanding, possibly helping others with self-understanding, and not taking myself too seriously.
I'm a double Sagittarius (sun sign and ascendant) with Libran moon, and in 2006 I marked Saturn's first return (i.e., 30th birthday), purportedly a time of major life changes. That WAS a year of transitions for me – many big life-things changed drastically, simultaneously and for the better. One contradiction among many concerning me is that I am intrigued by astrology yet am an analytical, skeptical scientist by training and instinct. I'm also somewhat trained as a classical musician--I've played violin since I was 3 (with a 7-year hiatus due to being hit by a drunk driver in 1993). I was concertmaster of my school’s orchestra from ’07-’08.
Although I'm seeking direction in several sectors of life, I think I’m having the experiences necessary for the way to become clearer (hopefully!). All seeds must grow, unseen beneath the earth, incubating within deep darkness for a time before they may bloom and be free. The universe is unfolding exactly as it should. It can be hard to project that idea into thoughts of the future, but I try to because it creates a better experience than the worrying I'm prone to. I choose to believe in that idea to remain sane, and, with the clarity of hindsight, I've always seen evidence for it (although it is inherent in human nature that we "find" whatever we are trying to prove. This does not mean that the sensory evidence of what is found is true; it just means that our brains are predisposed to look for and create patterns out of a neutral environment.).
I've been experiencing powerful transforming energies in my life right now in the forms of meaningful synchronicities, necessary lessons, a diagnosis with multiple sclerosis on 2/1/06, a year of constant adversity followed by the most incredible year yet, full moon circles, a need to seek more positivity, a (NON-dogmatic) spiritual renewal of sorts, having a happy and/or peaceful living situation for the first time in about 20 years and (re)connecting with amazing friends old and new. These experiences are all leading me far away from the austere, soulless, lightless world that would have been my “promising” science career. Instead, they have guided me closer to my heart's desires, toward a much healthier lifestyle, toward a greater appreciation for being alive and for living in the moment, and perhaps back to my roots as musician, nature spirit, artist, herbal healer, dream-seeker, and aspiring chronicler of the universe. Stay tuned for more dramatic life changes that are doubtless coming soon.

Variations on the Word Sleep
by Margaret Atwood
I would like to watch you sleeping,
which may not happen.
I would like to watch you,
sleeping. I would like to sleep
with you, to enter
your sleep as its smooth dark wave
slides over my head
and walk with you through that lucent
wavering forest of bluegreen leaves
with its watery sun & three moons
towards the cave where you must descend,
towards your worst fear
I would like to give you the silver
branch, the small white flower, the one
word that will protect you
from the grief at the center
of your dream, from the grief
at the center. I would like to follow
you up the long stairway
again & become
the boat that would row you back
carefully, a flame
in two cupped hands
to where your body lies
beside me, and you enter
it as easily as breathing in
I would like to be the air
that inhabits you for a moment
only. I would like to be that unnoticed
& that necessary.
What American accent do you have? Your Result: Philadelphia

Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak! If you're not from Philadelphia, then you're from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington (TASHA'S NOTE: I'm from New London, CT!). If you've ever journeyed to some far-off place where people don't know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn't have a clue what accent it was they heard.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

My lover on a deserted foggy beach in warm gentle rain at sunset. Myself, my destiny, and direction around some corner where it's been waiting to meet me. You. Ghosts, faeries, spirits. Mystics, travellers, dreamers. Musicians, artists, poets. Biochemists, physicists, mathematicians. The inspired, the inspiring, and inspiration. Dr. Jack Kevorkian's successor when I'm old enough. My maker. (Also R. M. Reid, E. Reid Lincoln, L. Kuntz Anholt, and M.S. Johnson, all deceased.) I'd like to go back in time and say all the important things that didn't get said. But we can only travel forward for now.

"I dreamt that we walked through a world-turned-snow globe, you and I. I saw you across a winter’s field of heaven, across from me at the far edge. Despite such distance of space and time, we immediately knew each other and eagerly met in the blustering, drifting snow at the center of the clearing. Sky and ground were blowing white. We ambled for hours and were not cold, passing icicles of fern and mullein and heather, fields and bracken, moor and mountain, all crowned in wintry white. We ended at my country cottage; it was draped in resplendent solitude and cloaked in waves of moon, while soon, in my room, we were clad in clouds of sky, you and I."
