PERRY KEYES

About Me

Perry hails from the inner-city of Sydney. He formed legendary Sydney band The Stolen Holdens in '89.Having played for the most part only in or around Sydney, the band finished up in the mid-nineties. They never toured. They released no records."The Stolen Holdens played lots and lots...mostly at the 1 place! Then it kinda stopped. I then spent a lot of time at the Drive-In and the Waterloo fountain... the Drive-In shut down and the fountain dried up..."
In late 2003 Perry began playing live again. This time it was low key acoustic shows that would often involve Perry playing 3 full sets of songs - all his own compositions and mostly made up of material written since the demise of the Stolen Holdens. It was at one of these shows that Bek-Jean Stewart - singer/songwriter for Sydney band Eva Trout - approached Perry about the possibility of putting a band together and doing an album. With the help of ex-Honeys / Catherine Wheel / Eva Trout member, Grant Shanahan - who provided his studio at Spencer, on the Hawkesbury River, north-west of Sydney - they set about recording the songs that would make up the bulk of Perry's debut double album, Meter.
"Songs are great. They help you fall in love. They help you get drunk. They help you with all kinds of stuff. For me, maybe the most important thing they can do is help you to hear the voices of people that don't generally have much of a voice out there. They can help you to walk in another person's shoes for a while, in places you may not otherwise wanna go..."..
