About Me
Club/mixshow DJ, remixer, music writer/reviewer, and vinyl enthusiast... I've been around music my entire life, but professionally since 1996. Starting with planning parties and carrying crates in Baltimore, I moved behind the decks in college, and have continued to learn and (hopefully) grow as a DJ ever since...
Former DJ/host of award-winning indie favorite Methods of Droppin' Mental mixshow (respect due to Poor Righteous Teachers on the namesake), airing continuously on WBRS weekly from 2002-2008, with DJs live in-studio mixing independent and mainstream hip-hop, R&B, soul, reggae, downtempo, and more, alongside interviews with artists, producers, and fellow DJs. In-studio guests and featured interviews included Spencer Bellamy (East Flatbush Project), Capone (CNN), DJ A-Trak, Brother J (X-Clan), Jurassic 5, Sadat X, Joell Ortiz, Guru, Prince Paul, De La Soul, and more.
Currently, E-Nygma serves as lead DJ/producer for an online radio show and podcasts hosted by Herkules (on-air personality, WPGC 95.5FM, DMV market) while preparing for the 2009 launch of a website/podcast with members of the Junior Varsity Crew, while balancing selected gigs and residencies. For airplay, interviews, or features for Herkules' World Online, contact teamherk AT gmail DOT com. For DJ bookings, remix and production work, or formal music reviews, contact djenygma AT gmail DOT com. EPK, mix samples, and one sheet available upon request.
Past gigs have taken him to Boston, Atlanta, D.C., Columbus, NYC, Chicago, Indianapolis, and overseas (UK & Spain), including work for clients including Via Matta restaurant, Adidas, the Asper Foundation and the National Society of Black Engineers, along with supporting and opening DJ sets for renowned artists such as Nas and Saul Williams. Residencies and features include two of Boston's famed nightspots, the Hong Kong Bar in Boston's historic Faneuil Hall, and Harper's Ferry (Brighton/Allston); Milton's, Eden's Lounge, and Ottobar (Baltimore); and more. Always looking towards the next opportunity...
With musical tastes informed by everything from classical violin training, to gospel music, to current dance music, my DJ sets cross a variety of genres and moods. Expect to hear golden era hip-hop, pop hits, soul, R&B, funk, dancehall, house, and electro, alongside the Baltimore club music sounds of my hometown. While controlled unpredictability is a constant aspect, the goal is to take listeners and partygoers on a aural trip. Travel with me... if nothing else, the playlist should be pretty solid...
