The, D-Girlz, Detroit’s new hip-hop sensation, are definitely bringing Motown back to the Motor City! The duo, made of partners Nish Byrd and Passion, made an explosive entrance into the hip-hop scene in the fall of 2005 with their first album “Gutta Girlzâ€. The self produced album featured the single, “Drunk in Da Clubâ€, which was a hit a local parties and dance clubs. Shortly after the album was released, they were featured on a soundtrack for the movie “Life Goes Onâ€, featuring Detroit-native Obie Trice.
Since the success of their first album, they decided to change the rap game and be the first female duo to release a mixtape, (a collection of original lyrics on previously recorded songs). Under their own label D. Productions, they have produced and released for promotion “Raw & Uncut Mixtape Vol.1â€, (December 2006), and “Raw & Uncut Mixtape Vol.2: Mixtape Mania†(August 2007). Mixtape Mania includes the singles “Trap or Dieâ€, “One More Timeâ€, and “Get Loose†produced by the D-Girlz, and production from “Super Producer†Bart J. They will also be releasing a DVD to accompany Volume 2, documenting the life of female rap artists. Portions of the film are being captured in a “reality show†format, showcasing their everyday life in and out of the studio. The audience will actually have the ability to follow The D-Girlz to shows (including backstage footage), and in the studio as they engineer and produce music.
The D-Girlz are currently doing nationwide promotion for their Sophomore Album, due Spring 2008, with the radio hit-single “The Mostâ€. As of August, 2007 the single is getting rotation on local radio stations in Lansing, Detroit, and Miami, as well as gaining spins in various night clubs across the United States and on Internet/Satellite Radio Programs.
Noted for having an explosive, energy packed performance, they have graced the stages at a variety of venues including: The State Theatre (Detroit, MI), Paychecks Lounge (Hamtramck, MI), The Apartment (Detroit, MI), Gregory’s (Lansing, MI), Club MVP (Detroit, MI) and the African American Parade Picnic (Lansing, MI), just to name a few.
After one encounter with the D-Girlz, you will soon realize that they are the future of the rap game. You will surely be amazed with their extraordinary vocals, magnetic stage performance, and music production skills. Ultimately, it is their charming and humble attitudes, along with faith in a higher power that will drive them to the top of the game and beyond.
